Amazon.co.uk Preview There cannot be a Spidey fan alive that hasn't seen the stunning movie trailer for the new film, but rather less is known about the accompanying game. It will feature a free roaming environment similar to the previous games though, which is no surprise considering how popular they are and how most subsequent superhero games have reused the same concept. It's also known that almost the entire movie cast will be lending their vocal talents to the game, including Tobey Mcguire, Kirsten Dunst, Thomas Haden Church, James Franco, Topher Grace and Bryce Dallas Howard. The main villains of the game will, like the movie, be Sandman, Venom and the new Green Goblin. However several other minor Spider-Man villains will also appear from the comics, including Shriek and the mysterious Dragon Boss. More information will undoubtedly show up as the movie's release date grow closer but a teaser trailer of the in-game graphics for Spidey himself suggest that this will be one of the most impressive next gen movies license so far. Third Time Not-so-Lucky May 5, 2007 A Gamer 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
I bought Spider-Man 3 on the day it came out and had high hopes. As I entered the game, I expected it to top Spider-Man 2, one of my favourite games. However, I was to be disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad game, but it just wasn't as good as its predecessor. The swinging is either an upgraded version of Ultimate Spider-Man (with a better boost) or a downgraded version of Spider-Man 2. The combat is nowhere near as flexible as Spider-Man 2, where it clearly states what buttons to press to hang someone on a lamp post or whatever, in this game you have to cycle through several different screens which may or may not conceal which move you're looking for, resulting in a lot of wasted time. The black Spider-Man suit is OK, but don't believe the hype, you won't notice much difference in the attacks apart from that they do more damage, and the fact that when Spidey wears to suit for too long in combat, he gets defeated makes you have to rip the suit off whilst trying to hold off the Lizard and his pals. Ah yes, the villains. Obviously, the first one is the Lizard, who's pretty cool, but we've seen him on most Spider-Man games. Kraven the Hunter, basically a stronger-than-average thug who sometimes whizzes around the screen for no explicable reason. Green Goblin 2, you only fight him once, and it's not really a proper fight, just a 'cinterlude'- timed button presses on the screen. Morbius, the toughest in the game, a vampire who's practically invincible. Shriek, his wife, who's nearly just as invincible as her husband. The Sandman, more timed button pressing for the first part then battering him with the black suit, and finally Venom. After Morbius, he's the toughest, but if you utilise your dodges well, you should beat him fine. That brings me onto the shoddy dodging system. Spider-Man 2's pressing circle whenever his Spider-sense flashed was a lot better than pressing L2 here and doing a fancy roll that invariably lands you in worse trouble. The gangs in the game are pretty good but boy, do they get those bombs wholesale or something? You'll see what I mean if you buy this game. The biggest criticism of Spider-man 2 was that the city events were samey, but on this front they've actually taken a step back- you just feel like punching the fat guy in the white vest after you save him and only him for the fiftieth time. However, graphics are pretty good in the cutscenes and you do get attached to the game after a while - although don't expect a long time playing it, I've completed the story already and this is the day after I bought it. The game is quite fun and I would recommend it for fans of Spider-Man, but if you're just looking for a sensational game to play, type in 'Spider-man 2' in the search box and buy that instead.
not as bad as it has been made out August 4, 2007 bassben04 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
to start with, i think why so many people hate it is because owners of a ps2 are brought back to earth with a bump after seeing the ps3 version on youtube and such like. i have played both ps2 and ps3 versions and i can say in all honesty i enjoy the ps2 version more. i'll admit, i'm a bit of a fan boy when it comes to spiderman films and games, and the swinging is a vital part of its general game play for me. for ps3 it remains more or less similar as spidey 2, hit R2 = webline out of nowhere, but for ps2 its alot more fluid, you actually see the process of him reaching out, shooting the line and swinging, plus there is a cool feature where you then pull your legs back and increase jump height at the end of the swing arc. as i say, i look too much into it as i'm a fant boy, hah. admitadley the story quote on the box '5 different stories' to follow is very loose, there are a few stories but it doesn't have the freedom that the quote implies. the combat is good, simple, but good, unlike the ps3s stupidly complex one. the upgrade system is simple however the hilarious commentator guy returns along with it. (my main dissapointment is his lack of appearence however, he is so funny.) a gang system is introduced so that in your spare time you get to knock some thugs senseless and then see how much the police begin to reclaim the streets. whats good is, at the end, even when you defeat all the gangs, you probably havn't got all the upgrades, but then a system is intorduced in which you can help the police sort out micellaneous crimes to earn the rest of the experience. the black suit is cool, but the novelty wears off pretty soon, and its satisfying when you manage to get red spidey to the same level of power through upgrades. the graphics for ps2 are suprisingly good however they come at a price, there are often times when swinging through a packed out frame the fluidness is lost (as in frame movement slows slightly), this occurance is rare however. it is easy but then spiderman games are, it was like 2, very easy and then the last boss is tricky. so yeah for ps2, i believe it to be a very good game and it shows all the attributes of 2 we loved in a better manner. but whoever liked 2 must have thought its length was an issue, if nothing else this gives you more oppurtunity to obliterate some more spidey missions. i hope this helped
BEST SPIDEY GAME EVER!!!! May 13, 2007 cool guy 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
This game is far the best spiderman game ever. i know that the game can be a little short at times and the graphics are not the best but the gameplay is great. The area has been extended and the black suit is incredible.a new photo mode has been added for the daily bugle assignments were a subject is given to you such as 'giant lizards' in cebtral park and parker tells you when you are the right distance to take a photo. the black suit is awsome you can switch to it from normal spidey at any time aslong as the time limit has been surpased.when in black spidermans powers become stronger and a whole new set of moves become availible.... but at a price. If you were the suit for to long peter will pass out and to take it of you will need to hit a combination of button presses which start from two and start to grow. if u loved the second spiderman game you will love this one!!!!!!

What a let down!! With all the good that Spiderman 2 did it is such a shame to how bad this game is. I'll hold my hands up and admit that the have made an effort to work on the problems of the last game (balloon mission anyone), but what on earth have they done to the rest of it. Swinging around New York was by and far the most enjoyable part of being Spidey, but they have manage to alter it so that swinging is now ...well...just no cool. It has no longer got that feeling of being a roller coaster only just on the rails. The the city if anything looks worse with a real blocky style that seems to lack the kind of vertical scale of the last game. The missions are even more fiddly and very repetitive with each one quickly outstays its welcome. When you look at the kind of polish that has be lavished on games such as God of War and Okami, to come out with something like this and still think that its worth praise is just down right cheeky. I'm off to replay Spiderman 2, with my new Spiderman 3 tea coaster.
RENT DONT BUY, YOU'LL REGRET IT May 10, 2007 Mangos_Gamehut (STOURBRIDGE, UK) 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
What a rip off... this is how I feel about this game.I'm a big spidey fan and a fan of the last 2 games on PS2, #2 was slightly repeditive in the missions but the game play area was huge and the mass of swinging and jumping where all there for us to enjoy. They have taken such a backwards leap in this game you truely feel ashamed and rather annoyed you paid full price for this game like I did. I bought it on friday afternoon and completed it by saturday morning est about 6-8hrs game play thats it. They have made good graphical changes and some bad, the lightings better and the interiors have been enhanced as well as the main character looking all shiny and polished. The exterior however no longer has the feel of New York or the scale in design. Buildings look rushed and exteremly blocky with very few having any sort of detail. The enemies arent brilliant as well as the FMV. Though its the gameplay that really really lets this down... In the first 10/20 mins of the tutorial you've completed 10% of the game!!! missions are far more repeditive and boring than #2.Fighting as well in #2 it was fast tense and you felt you had control over the character. In this one it feels like you press the Square/Triangle button and the character reacts a few milliseconds later, This might not sound much but you dont feel like you can trust your characters movements or actions when it matters most. Yes there are side missions but with so few and and pretty much everyone being near the same its tries and fools the player by giving them different names. sorry but there the same missions over and over and over again. This game feels rushed and badly designed. Dont EVER pay full price for this game as mentioned before you'll complete it before the receipts dry. Rent it if you have to, but to be honest thats still 3.95 too much for this game. Wait till this drops to a bargain price and it will..or as mentioned rent at least you wont feel so bad as sepnding 25+ on this game.
