Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
In a nutshell:
It's the game football fans wait all year for and to usher in the next generation EA Sports have given FIFA its biggest revamp in years, changing not just the way it looks but the way it plays in what aims to be the ultimate marriage of realism and fun.

The lowdown:
Every new FIFA game gets its expected improvements in graphics and presentation but this year the success of Pro Evolution Soccer seems to have driven EA to concentrate just as much on the gameplay. As such the game features better passing, crossing and free kicks as well as greatly improved goalkeepers. There's also a new "finesse" shot if you get the time and space to use it, while every kick is calculated in terms of space, composure and technique so that it's accuracy is determined by exactly what's happening on the pitch and not just some random factor. Add in completely new ball physics, more than 510 teams, 27 leagues, 4,000 licensed players and all new international crowd reactions and you've got EA's most concerted attempt yet to make the definitive football game.

Most exciting moment:
As well as all the individual improvements to ball and player control many of the game's best strikers have their own signatures moves and free kicks, such as Ronaldinho, Frank Lampard and Roberto Carlos. This includes the ability to, quite literally, bend it like Beckham.

Since you ask:
As befits its global reach FIFA 07 has perhaps the most multinational soundtrack ever in video games, with everything from Argentinean rock band Bersuit Vergarabat to Spain's The Pinker Tones and German group d.o.c.h.! (As well as Britbands such as Muse and The Young Punx.)

The bottom line:
FIFA gets serious in its attempt to out-football Pro Evolution Soccer

2 out of 5 stars Always fun, PES though...   September 6, 2006

Having played a demo and been veteran of both FIFA and Pro Evo (FIFA 97'-06' and Pro Evo 3-5) I feel the previous review is a bit misleading.

If you prefer to have correct kits from the outset then FIFA is the one to choose, and is always fun - it's a football game! Graphics can also be slightly better. If, however, you want a faithful adaptation of the beautiful game then PES is the way to go - although you may need some patience to edit the unlicensed kits if you're likely to play the teams a lot. I quite like that as it allows some flexibility (updating before the next one comes out, editing players stats if they improve over the year - Wayne Rooney in 2004, anyone...?).

FIFA is always fun but PES is the true football game - it really depends what you're looking for really. A kickabout with all the flashy stuff = FIFA, Trying to outsmart your mates by playing clever football and tactics = Pro Evo. FIFA has the money behind it but it would be silly not to look at PES because "It don't have the right teams or anything". FIFA just feels so clunky since I started playing PES about 3 years back.

by the sounds of this game. and going on everything that IGN have said about it, it sounds 5 star. IGN said that this game was quite an improvement in game play means than any other fifa game, and also the crowd react to your performance wich sounds great. I have been buying fifa games since the year 2000 and every year there has been significant improvement on both graphics and gameplay so i look forward to playing this one. as for the pro evo series i have never thought they could rival EA's well established sereis. i admit every year they get closer, but they are still not there, YET graphics are probs better on in the pro evo series but i care bout gameplay id rather wayne rooney look like a peanut and him scoring some scorchers and me enjoying the game, than having him look like shrek (identical) and him running like a dumnut and not moving till i tell him too!!

Easily the best football game out now.
This is the best sports game out on PS2. Everything is good; the game play, the controls, the graphics and the sound are all excellent. But the one small problem is that this film is not a vast improvement to Fifa 06, I mane, all the controls are the same, and so is pretty much all of the game play, but these factors don't change the fact that this a very good game, and it will keep you occupied until Fifa 08 comes out...

The graphics are excellent; you can see the absolute excellent detail, the stadiums look outstanding, the players faces have been greatly updated, and the crowd no longer look like cardboard. What is a good aspect is that the crowd yell names out and react to things, such as fouls, goals and misses. The league options have expanded to 27 leagues, including F.A Premier League, French League 1 and 2, German Bundesliga, Scottish Premier League and many more. The soundtrack has gotten a lot better, the most noticeable song is Keane - "Nothing In My Way''. You can play all over the world, and the game is really clever in career and depending on the country you are in the weather will changes, from mostly rainy in Scotland to mostly sunny in Italy.

The players all have separate stats, such as stamina and ball skills. Also, different aspects about the players, is that they all have their separate skills. They also have different celebrations when scoring goals, and they vary in actions when they miss.
There is also the awesome manager mode; you need a USB cable to play though. The goalkeepers are now much better; they react very quickly unlike the other games. Also, a new aspect granted to this game, is the ability to create a club. The club will start rubbish, but as you get more money you can buy new players.

This game is masterpiece. The controls are easy, you will pick up on the game very easily. Even though you don't really expect that good graphics from a football game, I assure you that the players, the crowd, the stadiums, all look excellent. The career, managing, and creating teams will keep you occupied for absolutely ages because there's so much of it. But, unless you are looking for an absolutely vast improvement on Fifa 06 then this is not for you.

9/10

4 out of 5 stars Much Much Better!!!   October 9, 2006

Fifa 2007 is leaps and bounds ahead of the previous versions. In my opinion, this year it has improved so greatly that it might just stand a chance of beating PES to the football game 'top spot'. The game is by no means perfect, but can this year be called a true football game. Below are the good and the bad of the game;

GOOD

1)'Scripted' gameplay is scraped (ie players move much more freely than previous versions. Shots are also 'free' and will not curl into the top corner every time.

2)Deflections are random

3)As usual in Fifa, all kits and clubs are licencsed

4)Manager mode alows you to take control of any club in the game and 'take them to the top' with youth development ensuring that your managerial career will last as long as you want it to!

5)This year you are able to create your own team and players

6)Set peices are more like pro evolution soccer and take some skill to get right. You are also able to call a layoff man who can lay a shot off for you or shoot it themselves!

BAD

1)The goalkeepers of your team make some mistakes and can be unreliable whereas the computer keepers are far too good!

2)Defending is very difficult and often matches end in high scores (5-5 in the Italian Serie A is not realistic!)

3)The game seems to be too heavily built around interactive play which doesn't seem right because this is, afterall a PS2 game

4)The music on the game is terrible

5)The commentary is quite repetitive and sometimes says some very stupid things (eg At the start of an FA cup match Arsenal vs Man Utd "Well the cup always throws up one of these. No other competition on the planet would put these two teams on the pitch together")

6)Transfers are only up-to-date as of 27/08/06 so late moves are not accurate (this can be fixed on an editor)

7)Weather is quite random

Overall this game is very good and feels like true football. I'm not convinced it will beat PES, but my solution is to buy both!

3 out of 5 stars Fifa 07 - Good effort, but not good enough   October 7, 2006

My mate (a pro evo fan like myself) decided to rent this game out to give it a try until PES6 is released. It really is just the same as the previous installments of FIFA, poor gameplay, poor touch on the ball - it just doesnt feel right. In a 2 player game, the ease of scoring is unbelievable (in first 3 games we notched up 27 goals).

The obvious features that attract people to buy this game are the appearance of the players, their shirts, real names, fantastic commentary, graphics - which i found all brilliant. But the fact is this game is still poor, EA still refuse to alter the simple fundamentals of the gameplay which could make this title a whole lot better. Until then it'll be kept on the shelf while pro evo keeps flying out of the shops.

In a nutshell : Same old Fifa, always boring.
