Amazon.co.uk Review In a nutshell: Lara Croft is finally back in the first game to do her legacy justice since the days of the original PlayStation. With updated graphics and gameplay, and a whole new suite of moves and equipment this is the sequel fans have always demanded. The lowdown: After the disappointment of Angel of Darkness, the Tomb Raider series has gone back to basics with a new developer and even a new Lara. Combat is back to being only around a third of the game with everything else centred on platform jumping and puzzle solving. To help this, there's a canny new movement system that allows Lara to jump onto and grab objects at an angle, so there's none of the awkward grid based movement of the earlier games. This is also the first Tomb Raider to have a proper physics engine, with lots of the puzzles revolving around movement and the use of Lara's natty new magnetic grappling hook. The graphics are also excellent, and with input from the original creator this is a long awaited return to form. Most exciting moment: The realisation that this is actually a proper update of the original game, as Lara leaps around cliffs like a mountain goat, with graphics and controls that aren't still stuck in 1996. Since you ask: The new voice of Lara is provided by Keeley Hawes, who also plays Zoe Reynolds in BBC TV show Spooks. The bottom line: Lara Croft is back in the first decent new Tomb Raider game for a long time. Harrison Dent

Tomb Raider's Raidin' Again! February 6, 2006 123 out of 239 found this review helpful
The new Tomb Raider game is newer, sexier and better than ever! It seems a combination of Splinter Cell, Max Payne (shooting style) and the legendary Tomb Raiders (I, II, III, Last Revelation & Chronicles). It's got more puzzles, moves and nice big guns than ever, as Lara embarks on a new journey. It's a must-buy for fans, and even those new to the series should try it. Hey, it's even got a grappling hook and a cool move where you slide through your enemies legs and shoot them in the head. Wooooooooooooooooo!
R.I.P Lara Croft- Died April 2006 April 16, 2006 T. S. Waddington (Northampton) 34 out of 38 found this review helpful
After seeing early screenshots and gossip about the new Tomb Raider game I thought that this might be the best edition yet, sadly I was desperately wrong. Any real Tomb Raider fan, like me, will understand where I am coming from. After buying the original game when i was very young Tomb Raider became my favourite series of games. I have eagerly anticipated the release of the next installment more so than any other computer game ever since. The main draw for me has always been the sense of isolation and the focus on puzzle rather than action, Tomb Raider has always been a game that mentally stretches people and for me has always stood out from the majority of mindless action games. I am not saying that mindless action games don't have a place within the gaming world, it's just Tomb Raider was always different. Angel of Darkness was without a doubt disappointing, however despite the problems with the control of Lara it still had the heart and soul of Tomb Raider, some of the puzzles were hard and Lara was in essence the same as she has always been. Because of poor sales figures and bad reviews Lara was ripped away from Core Design and handed over to Crystal Dynamics an American (shudder)design team. Apart from the appearance of Lara this game has been utterly transformed into a cheesy action adventure with minimal brain power needed. Everything that I have grown to love about Tomb Raider has been altered, the old music has been completely eradicated the puzzles are embarrasingly easy, the atmosphere is relentlessly destroyed by Lara's wisecracking American tech expert through her headset. Worst of all is that Lara herself has changed into some sort of female James Bond who works with a backup team, she is no longer enigmatic and interesting. I have to say that I am disappointed that the new game has recieved such positive press because this will encourage Crystal Dynamics to release further pointless sequels, I fear that the old Tomb Raider is gone forever and in its place we have a game that no longer stands out from the crowd. I could go on about the faults of this game for pages however i must stop somewhere. You may be wondering why I have given it three stars after competely slating it, well for what it is, it is very fun to play and quite exciting while it lasts it just doesn't have special quality the previous incarnations did.
Too much Hype April 8, 2006 a disappointed Lara fan (North Lincs United Kingdom) 18 out of 33 found this review helpful
Well where do I start, visually fantastic and good to have Lara back, when there is gameplay its good. Thats the positives. The negatives are, very very short gameplay interspersed with far too many video scenes, puzzles are far too easy, no real challenges it even tells you which buttons to press. No large free roaming areas, and the constant banter from the american really gets on your nerves. Lots of people commented on Angel of Darkness being poor, I feel this is not far behind. Far too much hype.
PROPER GOOD!!! (BUT TOO SHORT!!!!) April 8, 2006 Steve (London) 16 out of 24 found this review helpful
This game is a proper good game its got new graphics great simulations, fantastic weaponary. The bad guys die in various ways, use the enviroment as your weapon, adn solve loads of new puzzles with your new moves and skills. Unfortuanatly there is one big downfall to this game which affects my rating of it. I got this game a day earlier than its relase date, and I started to play it and I thought what an amazing game it truly was unbelivable. I played it on for about 2 - 3 hours and then deided to stop. Then the next day started to play it again, It took me about another 2 - 3 hours to complete it. I was so sdhocked about this game as every other tomb raider ahs taken me 2 - 5 weeks to complete. I havecopmpleted this game on all the difficulty levels and it was still too easy and far too short. This game has everything and more great story line, great game play and loads more. But for the price and the wait that it took for the game to come out, the story length is a total disgrace, it really disappointed me and I demanded a refund, and got my money back. But if your not into long stories or just fancy a quuick game play here and there then this is the game. But if your like me and fancy a challenge and want more story length and for it to go on more then don't buy it I strongly recommend not buying it. Otherwise a great game just far far far too short.
Tomb raider legend September 8, 2006 Mr. Derek K. Webb (Southampton, England) 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
The first word that comes to mind is AWESOME. This game is a cut above the rest and should be brought by anyone thats a fan of action/adventure games. I have to admit though, I was quite hesitant on buying this game after I played that angel of darkness rubbish. But as soon as I started playing it, I realised that this was a completly new ball game. It was fantastic. The gameplay is easy to pick up and the storyline is very good. The places you go in the game are extremely detailed especially in Japan and Nepal. The only problems with this game are that there isnt enough levels and the game doesn't take long to complete (I completed it in around 5 hours the first time around), and that you cant go outside in Croft manor, so you cant go on the assault course like you could in the earlier Ps1 games. Overall Tomb Raider legend is definately worth buying for any puzzle solving gun slinging adventure seeking gamers everywhere.
