A missed opportunity... January 5, 2006 Iceni Peasant (Norfolk, England) 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
In terms of graphics and gameplay this is the best tennis game I've played. With controls that make sense, realistic player movement and intelligent anticipation from the computer player. An excellent feature is your player is always nearest the screen, even after changing ends....other games when your player changes to the far end often prove to alter the game...with this you can at least keep a consistent level of play.Another good point is the amount of types of games you can play...from a full Pro Tour, to exhibitions matches. including the 4 main Grand Slams. There are a handful of the top players from the men's and women's tours on here; such as Mauresmo, Davenport, Roddick and Safin. And the graphics and body actions of these players are stunningly real and close to their real-life personas. Unfortunately there are not enough of the famous players, so it's not quite so interesting to play early rounds of tournaments, playing against computer generated nobodies! The big problem with this game is the STYLE of game. There are two modes in Pro Tour, either Mission or Normal play. In the Mission version you have to complete various challenges(such as winning 3 points in a row) within the match, and failing to do so results in a loss. Normal play is very disappointing, you do NOT get to play a proper game of tennis. In early rounds it's just the first to 3 games, and the most you ever play is the first to 6 games in a final of the Grand Slam. With the excellent gameplay features and graphics, it's a big opportunity to produce a realistic tennis game lost. It's the sort of game you can really enjoy, BUT, you're left feeling a bit short-changed, and wishing you could play the best of 3 SETS against Davenport instead of just 4 games.
Good, but could have been much better July 29, 2005 Mr. A. Mcgregor (Devon, UK) 14 out of 17 found this review helpful
Smash Court Tennis 2 has decent graphics, good gameplay, and in general is one of the best tennis games available (although right now, that doesn't say much). I do however, have a couple of gripes with this game. The game defaults with a very annoying mission-based approach, in which you have to fulfill several objectives (i.e. get an ace) to win a game, which can be as few as two in some cases. This is good if you are short on time, but reminds me more of going to the arcades than having a game of tennis. Thankfully, this mode can be swithched off, but even so the most you will play is one entire set, and even that isn't done properly- the first to get to 6 games wins, regardless if the other player has 5 games or not. The other gripe is the difficulty of the game. The game allows you to pich up skill points after winning matches, which is a good feature. The problem is that you can quite easily start the career mode in the first season, win all 4 grand-slams (which really isn't that hard) which end the game. What makes these things more annoying is the people who made this game got the hard part- the gamplay just right. It's just a shame that they messed up the rest.
Great fun, great gameplay August 7, 2006 J. Potter (Berkshire, England) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Really good fun, with very realistic gameplay. If you play tennis then the timing and positioning here are just as important to hit that killer shot although the beginner will also be able to hoik it over the net without to much hassle. The musak is awfull but you can turn it off, I could not find anyway of turning off the between point flyby's of the crowd and players. You can get rid of these just by pressing X at the time though. It does seem a little confusing that the first player to get to six games wins a set but guess that is just to make it easy for the beginner to comprehend, you can turn on tie breaks in the options screen. I especially love this game in multiplayer mode, have sat there for hours into the night playing, the only thing that curbs enthusiasm is your ability to time shots as your eyes get heavy! Great Fun!

This is easily the best tennis game out for PS2. The number of game modes can keep you playing for hours on end and the career mode can take up a serious amount of your life!!! It's an amazing game with great graphics and extremely fun in multiplayer, although it has 1 fault which is why it doesn't get the full 5 stars. In career mode you only get to play specific games in each match and depending on how you do in these games determines the outcome of the full match. At the start of career mode it can be extremely frustrating as you can play a player ranked far above you in the wotld and before you get to hit a ball the computer is already leading 5-0!! All in all though this is a must by game!!! Get it NOW!!!!!!
Smash court Tennis Pro Tournament 2 July 11, 2005 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
Smash court is an excellent tennis game. when you go on 2 pro tour mode your person starts off with a ranking of 250th and you have to try and get 2 no. 1. the top players on the game are Andy Roddick , Leyton Hewitt and Marat Safin and for the women the top players are Amelie Mauresmo , Lindsay Davenport and serena Williams. unfortunately Rodger Federer and Maria Sharapova are not in the game but hopefully they will be included in the 3rd game.
