Wow ... finally a game for my PS3 that doesn't disappoint. Since getting my PS3 a couple of months ago there were 3 games that I was really looking forward to, Ratchet and Clank future, Uncharted and GTA IV, I enjoyed Ratchet but it was too short and too easy and I felt slightly disappointed upon completing it, GTA IV disappointed just because of the constant delays ... BUT Uncharted:Drake's fortune is absolutely fantastic, I probably finished the game in about 10-12 hours but these were the most enjoyable 10-12 hours yet on my PS3, the storyline, for a change in a videogame, is engrossing and has plenty of twists and turns so as much as you want to stop playing and go to bed you just can't put the controller down because you need to know what happens next. Parts of this game can be very difficult but never frustratingly so, it's more a case of you fail once so you try a different tactic until you eventually find something that works. The first thing I did upon completing this game was start a new game straight away on the next difficulty setting and i'm now trying to find all the hidden treasure and earn all the medals to unlock some pretty cool rewards, of course there's your standard rewards such as concept art and macking of docs but then there's cool stuff like one shot kills and unlimited ammo to unlock, I can't wait to replay this game with them 2 active just to see how much easier it is to complete, I think i'll try it on the hardest difficulty setting then. If there were more games like this on the PS3 then i'd urge everyone to go out and get a PS3 but for now I still think it's best to wait until next year when the great games really start coming and then get a PS3 with Uncharted as your first choice of game to play. Very highly recommended. P.S. I'm now playing this game for the third time on hard mode and hoo boy it is hard, there's more enemies and they're much more intelligent, i've found all the hidden treasure and now i'm trying for the medals and rewards, i've had this game for a week now and i'm still having fun playing it, this game was definitely well worth the money. Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh JUST BUY IT, STOP READING REVIEWS AND TRY IT FOR YOURSELF, IT'S A FANTASTIC GAME.
The most promising PS3 game yet October 18, 2007 E. Wollan (Norway) 38 out of 53 found this review helpful
Created by Naughty Dog (widely considered to be among the top three technical wizards having worked on the PS2 & PS1), here's their first PS3 title and the debut of a totally new franchise. Finally, ND is entering the realm of more realistic adventure games (their previous games being 'cartoony' titles like Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter). The game takes place in several South American locations (be that in the pacific or on the main continent). Shortly told, the story revolves around treasure hunter Nathan Drake with the help of his female friend (documentary maker) Elena. Together they're trying to find the lost treasure of Eldorado which is seemingly linked to the famous explorer Sir Francis Drake (which Nathan believes to be his forefather). Things aren't just easy pickings as are there's seemingly several factions interested in the same thing though for what end purpose is unknown. Pulp adventure is the key word here. A classical adventure story full of chases, near-fatal escapes and twists around every corner. The story is a major draw of Uncharted. All the characters seem fully fleshed out and full of life. Regarding the lead, I think pro-g.co.uk put it best: "Nathan is a loveable rogue and, in an almost unique departure for video games, he has a masculinity that will impress women, based far more on whit than weaponry. He is attractive, hilarious and tough, and many male players may yearn to be a touch more like him. You can imagine him getting expelled from a boarding school, or spending nights in exotic prison cells, without really doing anything particularly bad. It seems peculiar to dwell too hungrily on the game's protagonist, but he is so engaging he makes the cut-scenes as enjoyable as the game." The gameplay revolves around three elements. Traversal, puzzles and gunplay. You traverse around, climbing cliff walls, swimming in rivers and taking dangerous leaps and whatnot. In this regard, Uncharted feels totally like a platformer which ties to Naughty Dogs previous strength with the Jak & Daxter series. The game has a lot of puzzles and just like classical adventures like Broken Sword and more you will hear Nathan Drake actually comment various objects as you look around, giving the game some extra life. You can pull up the journal of Sir Francis Drake at any time and look through the various pages for useful hints which adds a pretty cool element to the brain teasers (kinda like Indiana Jones using his fathers book in the Last Crusade). The last major gameplay element is gunplay & melee fighting. It uses a cover system very much like Gears of War. You can hug to a wall by pressing O and then you can hold in L1 to look around/over cover so you may take some shots at modern day pirates, mercenaries and other bad guys. Outside of cover though the game uses the mechanics of a platformer so unlike Gears you have total freedom of movement. Run, jump, climb, hand to hand combat, it's all up to you. Should give the game quite a liberating feel to it and preview reports so far have been great. Being a Naughty Dog game, the title will be setting a new graphical console benchmark when it comes out. While other developers brag about getting a select few graphical effects up and running, ND have been able to pull in effects from the whole spectrum and the game, frankly, looks insane. Couple that with highly detailed motion captured cutscenes and you have something truly special. The full game is releasing in North America on November 20th so expect full reviews shortly before that date from websites like gamespot.com and ign.com. It seems like all the pieces of the puzzle is being put together in a great way and as of writing this, the game is about to go Gold (development completed) at any moment. At this point it would be surprising if this didn't turn out to be the best PS3 game of 2007 (though it's certainly getting some challenge from Ratchet & Clank). Every PS3 owner should seriously think about picking this up.
The best PS3 exclusive so far January 20, 2008 Stevie G 34 out of 36 found this review helpful
Despite reading solid reviews, the concept of Uncharted just looked very stale (treasure hunting, pirates etc). In addition, every Sony game since Motorstorm has been a huge waste of time. Therefore, I was convinced Id be disappointed with this. However, Uncharted turned out quite the opposite and is without doubt the best PS3 exclusive so far. The characters turn out to be quite likeable (in particular Drake, far from the cliches they first appear as). The graphics are another high point, each section is incredibly detailed. The character animation just falls short of Assassins Creed, but not by much. However, Uncharted is a far superior game all round. Naughty Dog has done very well to provide variety to a game set on just one island, a Nazi U Boat Drake encounters early on being one of the most memorable. Gears of War has obviously been a big influence on this game. Even the way enemies spill blood reminds me of Gears. By far the best element borrowed is the cover system, and works incredibly well here. As do the jumping sections, familiar to anyone who has played Prince of Persia. Other games that came to mind when playing Uncharted were Resident Evil 4, Tomb Raider and Far Cry. Where Uncharted succeeds with this cheeky plagiarism is that it takes the finer elements from these games and combines them to create an extremely enjoyable game. Although nothing about it feels particularly new, it feels refined to the point where it's almost perfect. One final point that made me admire this game was how it played out. The ending does not finish on a cliff-hanger and neither does it only serve to set up the sequel. Uncharted actually has an ending, which may seem like a small point but can be infuriating. Assassins Creed, Ratchet & Clank and countless others please take note.

Listen, I never usually leave reviews but I just had to this time. I have had my PS3 for several months now and own around 7 games. I have never been blown away by any of the games and to be quite honest I am a little disappointed as i felt they are not a million miles away from the PS2 games. I ordered this game after reading the reviews, but was'nt that excited. As soon as you load Uncharted it ouses quality, the cinematic scenes are movie quality and very believable. Then you start playing the game...WOW!!! The graphics are just out of this world, I played the game with my mouth open as I could not believe how good it is. The sound track just adds to the atmosphere and before you know it, you are fully submerged in the game. The controls are very responsive and make the game a pleasure to play. I defy anybody not to like this game. This game is what the PS3 was designed for. All PS3 owners must own it. ENJOY!!!!
The best PS3 title yet December 12, 2007 Glenak (Wolverhampton, UK) 17 out of 22 found this review helpful
Hands down, this is the best PS3 title around. If you have a Playstaion 3 then get this game. Seriously, if you don't then you're missing out on a great adventure. I just finished playing Uncharted right now - such an awesome treat. Loved every bit of it. The characters are so human it's scary at some point - they come alive before your eyes, you actually think you're right there next to them. Thanks Naughty Dog. You guys rock!
