5 out of 5 stars Best RTS ever   February 23, 2007

This game is the best RTS you will play thus far. It immerses you into huge battles and provides great graphics and camera movement (The camera movement is the smoothest and best around). All forces are nicely weight up so that any faction can win a battle.

I personally play the imperial guard lots online especially, and to counter a previous review you need ogryn to protect you men when in tight spots (they are also in the books). This is why the game is perfectly balanced.

Event when not playing online it is thoroughly enjoyable as the skirmishes can keep you happy for month, even years in my case.

The game is much better than most other strategies as it attaches you to your units, therefore you want to protect them and give them the best change possible. The only other competitor in my mind is Company Of Heroes which is also created by THQ.

A Supremely perfect game, and a must have for all RTS gamers. Go for it!!!!

install ALL of these games for a truly awesome gaming experience! By itself DoW is OK, with the Winter Assault Expansion Pack it's better, but to enjoy the game at it's best install The Dark Crusade Expansion Pack. Don't throw the serial code away or [as i found out he hard way] you will not be able to enjoy the full benifeits of this game
Overall this game rocks!

I received this game for Christmas and was hesitant that it would not work on my PC. However, it ran very smoothly even with the detail up, so for that alone is worth a star in my opinion, as games like Supreme Commander may be good, but the fact that you need a monster PC to run them defies logic as they have alienated so many potential customers.

However, the game itself. I played through the entire Space Marines campaign, and have been meaning to play the Imperial Guard Campaign, however I have mostly been enjoying The Dark Crusade, which is excellent. I am sure you are all familiar with the game's objectives by now so I won't bother explaining them again, but it all works very well. Equipping your commander is also great fun. My only disappointment is the unit capping - The Dark Crusdae limits how many turrets and certain units you can build, which seems weak. It seems to show they realise certain units are unbalanced.

As for the different races, each are fun to play with. However, I always go back to Space Marines as they are very strong all round and easy to micro-manage. The Tau are disappointing in that they have some great units, but no turrets, so you have to keep units back at your base guarding instead of attacking. This pretty much renders them useles in a tough battle as you will be overrun. However, the 7 races provide great choices and depending on your opposition have great tactical effects.

Presentation and graphics are very good, although maybe showing their age a little compared to Supreme Commander and Spore etc. Sound is average though, and the sound bites of the units can get annoying after a while. The AI is pretty good, although some battles just descend into old-school type tank (or Marine!) rushes. However, the combat is very involved and great fun just to watch.

Overall, this is a great game, and for the money it is simply a must buy.

Definitely the best set of Warhammer games since Shadow of the horned rat on the PS this series is both graphically brilliant and true to the table top original! Already had the original DoW but January sales made me buy this set! So far only used the Necrons and the Tau but they are two great inclusions into the DoW world all thats left for the next expansion is the Dark Eldar, Tyranids, Sisters of Battle and the Witch Hunters

This is amazing value. DoW dark crusade costs 20 and this (which INCLUDES dark crusade) is only 18. WHATS UP WITH THAT?!?!?! anyway, the game.
The first Dawn of War includes 4 civilisations, eldar, orks, space marines and chaos. What i was instantly annoyed about, was that chaos are basically the same as the marines with only slight changes. But never mind that, the graphics are amazing and the orks are very funny (tip, dnt make the big mek get out of a truk wen goin into battle. i spent the entire thing jst getting him in and out and laughing my head off at his comments. im very boring :P)
Winter Assault is good, but the only really new thing is the imperial guard and the new campaigns, which are fair, at best.
Buy this game for Dark Crusade. It is amazing! The entire new campaign map keeps you going for weeks (depending on how much you play of course) and the new commander wargear is surprisingly interesting. I was disappointed however, at the new factions. necrons and tau were reasonable at best. they are very repetetive and not much fun to play at all IMO. Some things are slightly skewed for gameplay reasons, which i found annoying (imperial guard have ogryns. orks, basically. Why give a ranged faction fat things???) but on the whole, an excellent set of games are and for 18, its really worth it.
