Product Description
Flight Simulator X Deluxe, EN

Amazon.co.uk Review:
In a nutshell:
Microsoft's original civilian flight sim is still clocking up the air miles with the most significant sequel for years and a genuine attempt to make it more accessible for non-propellerheads.

The lowdown:
While almost all other flight simulators have fallen from grace on the PC, Microsoft have never given up on the genre with a game that's as ruthlessly realistic as it is completely free of any kind of violence. Every major, and minor, airport in the world is simulated and every major city has its share of recognisable landmarks, allowing you to fly anywhere in the world. There's a huge range of different aircraft to fly too: from jumbo jets and seaplanes to helicopters and everything in between. The only problem is that the game needs a seriously powerful PC to run at full whack, but even on lower detail levels this is still a stunning achievement.

Most exciting moment:
Despite the realism, the game isn't all dry simulation. There are a lot of fun missions to try out, including acting as a Hollywood stuntman, going on search and rescue flights, fighting fires and even flying over the infamous Area 51.

Since you ask:
The deluxe version of the game includes more cities, airports and aircraft as a well as an extra series of twenty-odd missions. There are also some additional multiplayer options, including the chance to share aircraft and have a go in the control tower.

The bottom line:
The most realistic commercial flight sim ever. Again.-HARRISON DENT

3 out of 5 stars Review FS X Deluxe   October 14, 2006

Having waited for ages for the latest installment of the game which i have been collecting since '95, I can honestly say that whilst the game physics are superb- if you don't have a hi-spec pc, you will be wasting [money]. I myself, was captivated by the screens, the unparalleled graphics, real-life like jetways and moving baggage carts- it does look superb however on starting a free flight from London Heathrow I noticed that all of the airport terminal buildings were missing, the jetways were nowhere to be seen and the scenery looked like we were going back to fs 2002. I then decided to tweak the settings a little to see what this would produce. I have a mid-high spec PC with an Nvidia graphics card and I have to say that I put everything up from the defult medium low graphics to the medium high (the next one up) and what a difference it made. It looked fabulous, I thought all of my worries had ended about wasting my money and my time saving up for the game...... and how wrong I was. My frame-rate went from 17 to 6 and then when I tried to move around the aiport it went to 3 frames/sec. Yes the game is superb, the missions are brilliant and realism is even better but I was not expecting to fork out the cash to upgrade my Nvidia graphics card. If you don't have a seriously good gaming Pc or graphics card i.e. something like an Alienware, you're going to be stuck on losing certain aspects of your realism settings be it glare from the sun, the buildings at the airport or land scenery you will have to drop something right down low. So overall, buy it by all means but don't expect to get the results on the screens because for the average pc user- you won't. Perhaps Microsoft should run its screens on a variety of PC specs so that all users can see how the game affects their type of machine not Micrsoft using the most amazing super computers to show their graphics. As I said, by the game and you will be getting something amazing but be prepared to put up with dodgy shakes and frame-rate if you want it to look realistic.

5 out of 5 stars Beware-Licence for only 1 PC system. Read the small print!   December 25, 2006

I have FSX Deluxe and am delighted with the FS detail and playability. What many people do not know or realise is that you can only install the game on one PC system!!! I have just purchased a Laptop and have been unable to activate the second installation to my Laptop online due to MS putting a 1 system installation restriction on the software package! I argued the point with MS helpdesk and got nowhere. Subsequent invetsigation revealed this little gem of info on the Installation readme file which is useless guidance because you will have to open the packaging before knowing!! Come on MS, play the game and clearly state on the packaging that you can only install it on one system.
Most frustrating! Back to FS2004 for the laptop!

5 out of 5 stars Pre-Release Demo   August 20, 2006

I have bought all the flight simulator series since Flight Simulator 98. The pre release demo i played recently of Flight Simulator X was awesome. Outstanding graphics, unprecedented realism and immense graphics. Each airport has its own unique traffic system and air traffic control. The landscape is a huge improvment from the 2004 edition. The aircraft that were available in the demo where extremely realistic and after about 20 mins you forget your at your computer and think your actually flying. A few tweaks are needed but that is the case in all demo versions. Can't wait for the full version to arrive. I would highly recommend it.

I purchased my copy from Amazon, and they did a fine job in delivering it on time :)))))) That's where the happiness ends!

I had a bad feeling about Microsoft Flight Simulator X, and so I downloaded the free demo before unwrapping my copy. The demo ran like a pig on my PC! The frame rates were so slow, and the constant hard drive accessing caused stuttering in the game :-(. Here are my PC specs: P4 3GHz, 1Gb RAM, 256Mb graphics card.

I've been using Microsoft Flight Simulator since 1999. This is the most disappointing version since FS2000. Let me go into some detail:

Scenery errors galore! Fly down the River Thames and you will see some horrendous mistakes. The river looks awful in places, and some of the bridges haven't even been positioned correctly. The QE2 Bridge doesn't even BRIDGE the Thames ... one end doesn't even reach land! :-(. There are lots of strange "land masses" on the Thames, which destroys the realism.

Did they test this software? ..........

Much of America and Europe is covered in SAND. USA and Europe look like the Sahara DESERT, and look hideous. Even North England is arid. Teesside Airport (EGNV) is elevated in a very surreal way. There are TWO Millenium Domes.

Some parts of Greece and non-American areas have straight coastlines, and look like polygons. Corfu looks like a big polygon. I hear that the Danube is missing .... probably something to do with all the sand? ;-)

The performance of this game is SLOW. This game was designed with future computers in mind, and so the average PC isn't up to it. Turn up the detail levels and get ready for a slide show, unless your PC is fantastic. Turn the detail levels down and you won't see most of the new "features" in Microsoft Flight Simulator X!!!!!!!

I hear that the adventures are quite good, though.

I was so disappointed with the Demo I returned my copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator X to Amazon :-(. I am not installing Microsoft Flight Simulator X just to find that I can't get a refund!!!!!

Before you buy this game, make sure you download the demo and see how it works on your system.

I thought I'd be OK, I have a dual CPU AMD Athlon 2800+ MP, with 2Gb RAM and a 512Mb Nvidia 5700 series graphics card (running dual screens).

Firstly, forget about trying to run this game on a dual-core/dual-cpu system expecting that it might take advantage of that new technology, the game will only use a single core of such a system.

Forget, also, trying to use a wide screen or dual-head display, FSX bitmaps assume you have a 4:3 aspect ratio screen and appear blocky in anything else.

Forget, also, of trying to run the game on a similar spec machine as mine at anything higher than 1024x768 resolution, without disabling all the features that are highlighting this title as special.

I also disliked the new 'Vista' UI, I just felt that it was causing the thirty second wait from clicking on menu options and wanted to disable it.

FSX is going in the cupboard for me for at least another year until the likes of AMD and Intel come up with faster processors to handle it.

I will continue on with FS 2004, which thankfully I didn't need to uninstall to install this game.

Conclusion: Be sure to know how much you're spending, I felt that this game was trying to use my enjoyment of flight simulators to not only have me upgrade my hardware, but also to buy Windows Vista, in the hope that it would somehow improve it's performance, which is visually lacking.
