First and foremost PRM plays like what it is- one of the first serious attempts to create a rugby management simulator. For those who have become accumstomed to the slick running and wealth of detail in the Championship Manager football series this will feel like a step back in time (it is realistically about as advanced as CM99/00). But that doesnt mean it isnt enjoyable.
There are some annoying problems: - Only the the English and French leagues have endorsed the game so all players from other nations have falsified names (Gavin Henson is Gavin Hinson for example) Although an editor is provided to allow you to get around this somewhat. - You cannot play as a New Zealand Super12 team- only the NPC sides are available. This is hugely frustrating as the season is short and then you are forced to watch your team playing (the game makes no difference between NZ S12 and NPC squads so it really is YOUR TEAM) against exciting opposition and you can just sit and wait for the next nine months. - The live game engine is painfully disjointed. On my laptop (albeit a four year old model) the screen freezes and jumps. As player and tactical decisions can only be controlled by clicking on the screen (something made impossible by this engine) you are just forced to sit back and watch. This too however is difficult as the game zooms in and out seemingly atwill. I now just skip the live game and jump straight to the postmatch, not so exciting but easier- live games take a painful 20-30 mins.
All in all this is an excellent start to a series. For interested rugby fans I recommend giving it a try (it hardly costs the earth) but be prepared for some minor frustrations. Hopefully, as the series progresses these can be ironed out.

The game itself is totally addictive- excellent in everyway (except for some jumping graphics in the 3D sequences but our computer needs upgrading anyway) but- and it's a huge but- it won't let you continue with successful teams you have built (it's happened to me twice- once for a team that won the Cup and came 5th and next for a team that won every league game of the season and was looking forward to promotion). So all that time and energy becomes totally wasted and you have to start again- wouldn't mind if everything had gone pear-shaped. Needless to say I've now retired from Rugby Management- very disappointingly- for that very reason.
