Gameplay over Graphics December 16, 2005 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
Starcraft, an ancient game with graphics that look like they belong on papyrus, is still popular because it's finely balanced and the gameplay is still amazing. Pretty visuals can't mask a poor game. Dawn of War and the Winter Assault expansion are full of imbalances, and can be incredibly frustrating at times. But Warcraft 3 is finely tuned in every sense, and Blizzard's battle.net ensures it has one of the best online communities of any RTS. It deserves all the praise lavished on it, and there are plenty of reviews that do a much better job of extolling it's virtues than I can.
Simply enjoyable January 4, 2006 Dozza (Hampshire, UK) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I must admit I am not a fan of base-building strategy type games but once I got into this (which didn't take too long, the controls are quite intuitive), I found it one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played. While all the different kingdoms are fairly similar there is sufficient variation to make them all interesting in their own right (my favourite being the Undead). Close scrutiny of the graphics is not a good idea as the characters can be a bit triangulated but as an overview it all comes together and is also very colourful. Great game and available as a bargain.
chocked full o goodness September 7, 2006 Linda Lucraft (UK) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This game is an amazing game, the storyline for the campaign is extremely well written and the graphics tho aged still look good. There are too many good things about this for me too go into detail but with the ability to control the speed of the game it makes building bases fast and combat easy to control and there are lots of different units with lots of different abilities, so you build up a team of mixed units, not just 20 of the strongest guy (like most RTS games)It also has an easy to use map editor. In all, this game is great and worth buying.
Good but not that good! December 7, 2005 Rab (UK) 8 out of 17 found this review helpful
Bought this game after reading an old review in a pc gamer mag. I’ve noticed that it is still rated as a very good game.Game play wise it very intuitive and you find yourself getting straight into the hero and building role early on. The plot seems good although I’ve only played maybe a third of the game. I’ve only given a 3 star rating on the basis that the game is good but not that good. PC games like Dawn of War blow this completely out of the water. What really lets Warcraft 3 down is the graphics. The main bonus to Warcraft 3 is the hero character that evolves as you progress. If you want a cheap game for a bit of fun its well worth buying but don’t expect to be wowed by the in-game graphics.
Fantastic. July 17, 2006 Lysander (England) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
This game, in short, is great. I had never liked RTS games before, and always make a note to avoid them. I was persuaded by an online friend to try this game out, and considering its price at the time i swagged it. I'm glad i did. The campgaign is amazing, it's well written and planned and has a tonne of lore behind each scneario. The heart of this game though obviously belongs in the online matchup service, battle.net. Me and a friend, after 2 years, still login and match up against other players across the world in a 2vs2 battle. It involves skill, planning and teamwork to overcome t he enemy, and it's never boring. Theres always things to be done, and if you slack your base may be at risk. It's a great game, and I'd recommend it to anybody.
