The dragon February 29, 2004 11 out of 26 found this review helpful
It simply is the best shooting game yet. It has been released but I can't find it in shops anywhere: I am devastated. Even amazon.co.uk have a lead time of one to two weeks. I must have played the demo ten times. It's so good and I'll tell you why. I have heard a lot of reviews say it's like Microsoft's Halo; even such insults as a 'Halo wannabe'. I like Halo, but it's not absolutely the best. It's gaphics are a bit dirty looking in places, and some of the characters are a little unbelievable. It stammers a bit too, even with top flight computer kit. Breed's graphics are brilliant, clear, and well detailed. I don't know how they do it without a stuttering framerate. I'm glad that Breed is not made by that massive Microsoft corporation with Bill Gates at the top. Don't you think they've got enough money. Mr Gates is the richest man in the world. Halo follows the old format, and does it oh so well. I've played it through twice. Breed is better, it's more modern, it's unique, and I like it a lot more. I like the controls, the scenery is fantastic, and that's just one level in the demo. I can't wait for the other twenty/twenty-five; (I've heard different stories). I can't actually say anymore but I think you'll like it a lot. Please don't hold my reputation to it if the rest of it turns out rubbish, [only played demo]. I don't think it will do and I've bought a copy; I'm just waiting for amazon to deliver it.
Not bad - but VERY frustrating and very hard April 5, 2004 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I have no idea why they bothered with the squad based idea. Yes, sometimes the squad gives you a little bit of backup - but, on the whole, they are pretty useless. All you end up doing is swapping between them to take advantage of their different weapons at different times. This would have been a lot less hassle if they just let you "carry" all of the weapons yourself. Unrealistic, yes - more fun? YES.Also - this is what I would call an "arcade" game. It is SO hard (right from the outset) that you basically find yourself doing the following: 1> move 2> die 3> move again 4> die again 5> move again and this time finally see what is killing you 6> play again and this time take enemy gun out before it kills you this time You then repeat the above forumula every 10 "yards" or so. This is particularly true of the tank missions. This game would make a fortune if it was coin-op based (hence what I call an arcade game) In other words - there is no real chance to employ your skill at FPS games and think on your toes. You just don't have a chance. No reactions or anything similar will save you here first time - you just have to keep dying/failing and then remember where everything was the next time. Not sure how much longer I will keep playing this as it makes you want to scream!
Not very fun November 5, 2004 10 out of 15 found this review helpful
If this game had come out when it was supposed to it would have been truly groundbreaking. However, it's been so delayed that everything it does has been superceded by one game or another. Anyway here goes...STORY Dull, tedious, derivative. But there again does anyone care about such things outside of RPG games? GRAPHICS Like I said, when we first saw the demo these were groundbreaking but what with all the delays by the time the game was released they're very average. SOUND Pathetic. Annoying narration and wimpy weapon sounds, a cap gun would give you better. MULTIPLAYER Zzzzzzzz... oh! It crashed, what a shame, guess I'll play something else instead. EXAMPLE OF GAMEPLAY Creep forward, get massacred, reload. Creep forward, get massacred, reload. Creep forward, get massacred, where the hell are they firing at me from, reload. Creep forward, get massacred, ah ha! There they are, reload. Creep forward different way, massacre breed, save. Creep forward, get massacred, reload. Creep forward, get massacred, reload. Creep forward, get massacred, quit game in disgust. Repeat for every single mission. SUMMARY I eagerly awaited this game since seeing the demo and I really wanted to like it. But basically, it blows. There are better FPSs out there. There are better squad based FPSs out there. Play something other than this.
Read this before you buy the game March 28, 2004 7 out of 12 found this review helpful
* Good things The single player in the game is great, many weapons, vehicles, aircrafts and many breed to kill, besides you have your own team of 3 and you can switch between your team members when you like. The game has vast atmosphere, islands, forests and structure and it's all destructable.* Bad things 1- Weapons don't sound as they should, surely if I have an assult rife I expect it to sound like one, same as in Halo, but in breed all weapons sound like snake hissing specially the stationary guns. 2- Multiplayer is rubbish, if you are used to Halo style multiplayer you are disappointed and the game keeps crashing and exiting during multiplayer mode and you get the 'lost connection' message. 3- if you switch to your desktop and back to the game, you've had it nothing will come back other than a blank screen and it's going to cost you alot of frustration to shut the game down. 4- Everytime you play you have to put up with the long boring introduction and the annoying narrator. All in one it's a good single player.
A game better than Halo in many ways July 23, 2004 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
After playing Breed i was pleasently surprised. After reading many reviews for the game, which were mainly negative i decided to buy the game anyway as i was very impressed with the demos i played. I was not disappointed, Breed has the occasional bug but overall i found the action to be entertaining. The missions had enough variety to keep me interested (which Halo didn't as after completing the first few missions i found that Halo got more and more repetative)and the weapons and equipment were all easy to use. Also the squad control system was simple to use, but still effcetive when the action begins. On a last note, i found Breed superior to Halo in one particular area, vehicles. In Breed i found the use and control of both the tanks and fighters far more easy and enjoyable than Halo's. In particular while using the tank in Halo i found the tank awkward to control, and its machine gun generally inaccurate. In Breed however the tank feels how it should with a large amount of offensive weaponry, which not only is accurate but also has the option to target both ground and air targets depending on the type of threat you face. So if you fancy a change from a repetitive linear game such as Halo and have an open mind playing Breed you will not be disapointed.
