4 out of 5 stars Deeper than the original   July 30, 2002

Although the graphics are the big selling point in all the magazine reviews and previews, it is the gameplay that does it for me.

Not only do you have limited supplies and men, you are also the commander of a a guerilla force of freedom fighters rather than a footsoldier in a conventional army, so the missions are much cooler.

You will find yourself deliberating whether or not to replay a mission because although you won the battle, you may have taken a hit in the bigger war; you may have used too many RPG grenades and two of your best men bit the bullet.

Its this micro management that makes this version stand out; deciding who goes forward and who in your squad you want to be in the exposed positions... you actually care what happens rather than just try to get through all the missions in one piece.
The first time I lost a tank, I actually felt like a freedom fighter would if they had stolen a Soviet T72 and then watch it go up in flames... gutted!

Something not mentioned at all is the fact that as well as the graphics being of a higher resolution, so are the terrain meshes themselves, and this gives many more options for hiding in dips in the ground, and so on. This also lends itself to the strategic art of waging (virtual) war as opposed to 'just shooting everything' as you do in Quake.

Finally, the cut scenes are much larger and longer, giving a real sense of a proper storyline.

The only minor issue is that you need a good machine to play it on the high settings, but that is the price you pay for a cutting edge game with depth.

I admit that I did not like Flashpoint when it first came out, it was glitchy, badly animated and the story was not very well told. The first two points were pretty much ironed out by the 4th patch and you'll be pleased to know that this version of the game fixes them pretty much totally giving a much sharper feel to the game, and making it much more enjoyable and much more involving. The strength of this add-on however is the storyline, previously the storylines have always been very formulaic, but in this instalment the plot is very good, you play the embittered war veteran (always a good choice) forced to confront his past as the Russians invade his homeland. This is a prequel to the original game including such details as Colonel Guba (before his promotion to General) leading the occupying force.

This game has a much more in-depth and complete fail than the previous episodes, as commander of the resistance force you have to deal with resource management (i.e the capture of guns etc) and although this isn't always perfectly executed the overall impression is good. The new weapons are of less interest really as there is a vast modding community out there however the new hand guns and motorbikes are again another move towards a more complete feel.

This add-on then is very good, it dramatically improves the original game and adds a very involving storyline in this instalment. This really is a must for not only Flashpoint fans but also for people like myself who liked the idea of the game but not necessarily the finished product. This is effectively more of a finished product, it fills in all the corners that were cut in the first game. The only word of warning I would have is that although on the back of the case it says that the specs to run Resistance are the same as on the original Flashpoint this is not true, they are higher, it crunches alot of memory.

I managed to get it a day early (not saying how) but well. The new campagin is very involiving if you lose a man in one mission you lose him in the next mission. And the same with weapons ect.. i gave it 5 because it rocks the world. MP

5 out of 5 stars This is the masterpiece-expansion pack!   January 29, 2003

There have been many games in the past where the expansion pack has only added things such as new missions.

However, Resistance completely changes the game. Not only does it use a new game engine to enhance realism and add more limitless possibilities it also adds many more units and missions. I haven't been a great fan of missions in this game, but I can say they are all of very high quality and fun to play.

The unique feature of Resistance and Operation Flashpoint is the mission editor. With an easy interface it is easy to get used to and very powerful - it can be very fun making your own missions.

Currently, with around 6 fan made add-ons released daily through out the Flashpoint online community there is always something new. The publishers also frequently release new units and patches to download.

Resistance adds a new map, Nogova, to the game. This is a huge map with many new features and more explorable interior locations such as weapons factories, town centres e.t.c
New units, And NEW Features - especially in aircraft where there are new features such as animated cockpit, new missiles, anti-air countermeasures e.t.c
The graphics are also much better - high end pc's can take full advantage of this.

This is a great expansion pack, it fixes and adds so much. Definately worth the upgrade!

This is a brilliant new add-on it brings a huge number of new options to the game such as introducing the use of handguns and many other new gunsnot previously seen in the game. The graphics have been grately improved with much more realistic looking scenery and people. The game adds a thrid campaign to the game aswell, Resistance in which you are fighting as the head of resistance forces trying to keep the russians out of your country, the campaign also gives you the option to betray the resistance w to the russians which i was was a nice extra. Overall its a brilliant add-on and ... its more than worth it.
