The dualshock2 controller is identical to the orgininal dualshock, which was a favourite among gamers, apart from colour and the analogue feature.

This feature measures how hard you press a button. This is particually useful in driving games, pushing the accelerator button down hard will mean you "floor it" and speed off. While presing the same button lightly will mean you accelerate at a more relaxed pace.

I've had two dual shocks for over 4 years now, and if i'm totally hounest, I don't treat them very well. They go flying accross rooms in frustration quite often, yet have still worked fine to this day.

All the buttons are easily accesible and the controller is comfy for hands of all sizes. Which is more than I can say for the XBOX and Gamecube contollers.

If you are looking to replace your current PS2 controller, or want to purchase more for multiplayer fun with friends and family, I would reccomend no other controller. Except no immitations and go with the official and best.

3 out of 5 stars Nice try Mr Sony - but WAY too fragile   October 2, 2002

First the good bits - anyone who's used to the original dualshock controller will find the dualshock2 very familiar. It looks and feels almost identical, and I've yet to find another controller that feels as comfortable. The dualshock rumble adds that little bit extra to a game and the analogue sticks perform faultlessly.

The biggest difference from the original offering is the analogue buttons; the buttons effect varys depending on the pressure. Its a good idea and it works very well in some games (much better than you might imagine), but its also the controllers weakest point - these buttons are just too fragile!

Four weeks of playing SSX has destroyed a brand new controller, and I think this is totally unacceptable hence three stars (down from the five I would have given it).

My advice then:- Great controller, but save it for the games where you need the extra sensitivity and control. For a button bashing frenzy, use the original dualshock controller - its far more durable.

This controller is by far and away the best one available for the PS2!! If you need a second controller, then buy this one because all the others (although slightly cheaper) are not in the same league! Fork out the extra cash and get this one!

I think the original PSOne (non-analogue) controller is the greatest ever made and cannot be surpassed in its comfort. With this in mind, I expected a great deal from the new dual-shock2 item when I opened up my new black box of delights.

After spending a while getting used to the addition of the new analogue sticks I can't say that I was at all dissapointed. The controller has a nice weight, sits comfortably in the hand and the rumble is great for high-tension games (or just to tell when someone is attacking from behind).

It was only when I came to use the controller in a game that required the use of the shoulder buttons that I found what seems to me to be a huge flaw: How on earth are you comfortably supposed to use the L1 and R1 buttons ?

In someone's infinite wisdom, the height at the rear of the controller has been increased - presumably to accomodate the dual-shock feature. This would be fine except the the left the L1/R1 buttons out of easy reach. In the old layout, it was comfortable to use the first two fingers of each hand to operate both left and right sets of buttons. If the new controller is held in the same way now, it feels top heavy and unstable - what a dissapointment. I would rather have gone without the dual-shock feature!

Apart from this flaw, this is a very good controller and I can't imagine any third party product doing the job as well.
