Amazon.co.uk Review FIFA 2001 is the latest game in the massively popular football franchise from Electronic Arts and like its predecessors it sure to find its way into many footy fans stockings this Xmas. With over 60 international teams on offer, you can take your team through a number of different game types including playing a one-off friendly or attacking the full World Cup. While these may seem appealing, you are also tempted by the inclusion of the major European and American leagues--15 in total. The Season option, on the other hand, lets you play up to three consecutive campaigns with relegation and promotion available in a FIFA game for the first time and versions of the UEFA and European Champions League available. The gameplay is not radically different from FIFA 2000, but there is some new player animation with a lot of attention placed on the keepers. First-time players will find it very easy to get into, though the learning curve through the games difficulty levels can be surprisingly steep. With a limited transfer system and team tactics everything can be customised and changed on the fly as the game progresses. The graphics have been polished and the game runs very smoothly. FIFA 2001 is full of detail: key stadiums are accurately modelled and each team has the correct sponsors logo on their shirt with the exception of Arsenal for some reason. FIFA 2001 is probably still the best pick-up-and-play football game available. It may lack the depth of the ISS series, but for immediate accessibility it is still the champion. --Michael Bartley

Fifa 2001 game review April 16, 2002 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Fifa 2001 is a step stone in the right direction to creating the ultimarte football simulation that allows both sheer entertainment and ultimate realism. Different people will like different football games, but there is no doubt that the gameplay and graphics are a vast improvement on Fifa 2000, and are better than any football simulation that I have seen on the PC. New features, such as music added when you score and enter the arena, add great realism and drama to the event. With the great amount of leagues offered, and the competitions, there is no football game that offers a better range of play. Some may say, in Britain, that it would be nice to see such leagues as Nationwide Division One rather than Israel or Greece. But worry no more, because there are plenty of sites online, which offer downloads for the game, including kits and rosters. The gameplay is very real, although, after a while, it may get just a bit too easy. If you ever need to score a goal quickly, you can always score via an overhead kick which beats the 'keeper 90% of the time. This game is a MUST for all football simulation gamers, and EA are steeping firmly in the right direction.
EA Have Cracked It! November 30, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The latest FIFA in the series and what a major improvement to its earlier releases. The best helping of PC football simulation yet and definately worth buying. I think EA have finally cracked the game play side of FIFA as the smooth slick play is incredible! I think they are just left to build on the other side of it now. Maybe more team management options etc. The graphics are absolutely amazing. If you feel that you shouldn't buy it cause you have FIFA 2000 or for some other reason you are missing out and you should go out and buy it. Any football fan would love this game, and I just think it is so brilliant and it will blow you away! A bonus to this years release is the great Internet play available.Buy it!
Brilliant but more options April 24, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is fantasticly detailed and is a pleasure to play but it lacks options and cause ea boast having 60 national teams plus they don't even have Portugal or Morrocco. As for the clubs you don't get Spartak Moscow or Dianamo or Dynamo Kiev. You don't get too many stadiums either but apart from these little bad bits and the fact that you can always score from overhead kicks the game is perfect.
Fifa 2001 July 30, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
To be honest with you i din't think this game was very good because i thought fifa 2000 was much better the passing and shooting has changed it was better having it the same as 2000 you also only get the listed staduims rather than the real staduims sorry people i only give it one star lets hope fifa 2002 is much better.
Could be better August 8, 2001 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
FIFA 2000 and '99 were much better. The problem is our machine isn't up to date so itt doesn't work to well ( you need 3dfx card's etc..) And in FIFA 2001 there aren't any Hungarian team's for example : FTC , MTK , UTE .That's what I think the problem is.
