Set in the near future, Frontlines: Fuel of War asks the plausible question `what would happen if our oil reserves were about to run out? As man kind is starved of one of its most important resources two super powers face off over the last reserves in intense futuristic warfare. Starting on the oil fields of central Asia this game takes players across the globe and right into the heart of Moscow itself.

Created in collaboration with a team of military advisors this game features over sixty different weapons and vehicles all based on real world technology being developed by the modern military. Players will be able to take the war to their enemy using everything from guided smart bombs and remote control combat drones to the good old fashioned assault rifle. The unique Frontline mechanic employed in this game ensures that the gameplay is intense and fast-paced at all times as well as giving players the freedom to explore the maps fully.

Featuring a gripping and immersive single player storyline spanning eight vast missions and an exciting multiplayer mode for up to 32 players on Xbox 360 and 64 on PC featuring a unique role and load-out system allowing players to customize their character to suit any situation making Frontlines Fuel of War a simply unstoppable force.

4 out of 5 stars we know its not cod4!!!!!!   March 3, 2008

firstly i have to say the price for this special edition is a steal!!!! game have it up for 49.99!!! secondly, please people stop comparing this game to call of duty 4's multiplayer. we all know how good cod4 is and we know it will take a lot to beat it.

ok, this game has a reasonable single player, if you've played battfield 2 e.t.c you know what to expect. its more of a training sim for the multiplayer game, its good, just not great. the ai is a bit shoddy, but the objectives and choice of vehicles and weapons make it a fun game for a few hours. the mutliplayer however is good fun. its very fast and again, there's such a good choice of weapons and vehicles. if you've just been blown up by a tank, then respawn as an anti vehicle player. if its a map with loads of high points then its time to roll out the sniper, not a good shot then try finding cover and send out a drone. the graphics are really good and the enviroments are well thought out. there's plenty of cover and getting up high for those sniper kills is pretty easy on most maps. all in all its a good fun game, and it feels a little more balanced for newbies then cod4.

4 out of 5 stars Dont buy if you dont have Xbox Live !!   March 17, 2008

Ok , This game is frighteningly real with regards to the fuel consumption crisis we have right now . Its possible that wars similar to this will be faught in years to come !
Anyway , this game has many good aspects to it but unfortunately some annoying little niggles aswell .

Good: Multiplayer ! this game boasts the largest amount of players you can have online at one time as a whopping 60! No joke , its great fun and the fact that you can form your own squad is a fantastic idea .

Graphics : This game really makes use of the next gen HD capabilities of the Xbox360 , the way that things like the water on it is presented and also clothing is just mind blowing !!

Weapons : It has a fantastic array of futuristic weapons such as drones ( robots that you control and are equipped with powerful weapons!), heat seeking rocket bazooka's , heavy and light machine guns and air support .

Bad points : Single player , extremely short and very easy to complete also when completed i recieved no gamer points either ! It isnt possibe to command members of your squad on single player which is definately a great shame .

Enemy AI : is crap to be honest ... thats the only way i can describe it ! not only that but the enemy never seems to stop coming until you take an objective .

Repetetive : After the first few missions this game gets really repetetive , and without a gripping story line this caused huge problems for me !

Misuse : I really think that they have taken a superb idea for a game and missused it , it could have been better and longer on single player .

Ok so thats it , i love the game and think it was money well spent but that is because i have xbox live . Dont buy this game if you cant play it on multiplayer !!! I can not stress that enough folks !!

5 out of 5 stars Nice Variety   January 8, 2008

The first project for Kaos Studios (a division of THQ founded by veterans of Trauma Studios, creators of Desert Combat and Battlefield 2 R&D projects), Frontlines: Fuel of War uses the advanced Unreal 3 engine for futuristic, intense fights in an open-world battlefield. In this all-too-bleak future of constant wars over natural resources, two sides compete for global supremacy: the Western Coalition (the United States and the European Union) and the Red Star Alliance (Russian/People's Republic of China). The game's nonlinear single-player campaign has players advancing their side's frontline into enemy territory with more than 60 vehicles and advanced weaponry that includes everything from next-generation assault tanks to experimental RC drones. T o me it was this variety of different vehicles and weapons that really took my attention. The only bad thing that I actually found in the demo was that there doesn't seem to be anyway to take actual cover behind terrain and blind fire. but due to this it actually kept me pressing forward rather that hiding till the heat died off a little.

These guys dont know what they are talking about, the battlefields are HUGE the draw distances are massive, Ive been on the beta and it rocks!

The battles centres around a frontline which both sides must take and hold a series of objectives on, once your team secures them the frontline pushes further into enemy territory, push it all the way to their end of the map to win. 32 players on 360 and PS3 and 64 players on PC not even COD does that! I love COD and I love this, especially the fact you get to stay in cover and control radio control drones like recon helicopters and tanks with gattling cannons, call in airstrikes and artillery, name another game that can do that.

2 out of 5 stars Fun for a time, no lasting appeal, multiplayer fatally flawed   March 1, 2008

Along with a lot of people I have been waiting eagerly for the release of FFoW. I was especially looking forward to the sandbox environment and fully interactive terrain, neither of which disappoint.

The single player mode isn't as bad as a most people make out, for once your opponents are a little tougher to kill than in most games, which makes you plan your strategy. The auto drones are fun and the storyline is interesting and topical.

However, for a game that has based most of it's reputation on its advanced online play, this is a huge disappointment.

Firstly there is only one multiplayer mode, which is essentially Domination for those of you familiar with COD4. That's it, nothing else.

Secondly, the auto drones which were so much fun in the single player, are a real pain in multiplayer, not to use, but to be on the receiving end of. If you've got fed up of just being fragged to pieces with grenades on COD4, then the drones are going to drive you bonkers here. The other team can sit in a hidey hole, launch their drones and frag you out of the game. Well do the same to them, you might say, but that's not particularly advanced multiplayer to me!

Thirdly, and this is where the multiplayer game dies on its feet, it is a spawn camper's dream. Once you're enemy has captured all but one or two bases, all they have to do is pitch in with their Calor gas stove and spawn camp you out of the game. When the game lets you spawn at all. Oh yes, when all your bases are captured the AI doesn't let you spawn so you can't rejoin the game and get them back! Again hardly advanced multiplayer to me.

I was online last night for a few hours and spent approximately 30% of my time waiting to spawn, it was my team that was rubbish not me :-)

So if you loved Battlefield, even down to the use of great vehicles including F16 fighter jets in multiplayer, you'll probably like this as it is very similar.

If you loved the gritty realism of Rainbow Six, save your money and wait a couple of weeks for that sequel.

I can guarantee FFoW will be available as a pre-owned at knock down prices within a fortnight as the much vaunted multiplayer drives people away in droves.

One last point to consider, the previous reviewer compared this favourably with Shadowrun, which to me, was one of the worst Xbox games ever!

Caveat emptor.
