Great Game, if a little frustrating at times September 3, 2007 PL Tuck (Guildford, UK) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I recieved this for my birthday on Saturday and have had a hard time putting it down to play the other games I've bought recently. It is very, very addictive if you are a perfectionist. The desire to get the perfect line through a scene is very strong. There are plenty of stages (6 films with 6 scenes each + 'odd jobs' + 'constructor challenges', + 'quick fixes') all of which are very replayable (eg first time you just want to pass the stage, then you want to up your score / star rating, and eventually 5 star it). The graphics are good, the sound is good. The storyline is non-existant but that doesn't matter, as it's all about the stunts / scenes you will be shooting. Once you complete the scenes for a film you get to watch the film trailer, which was a nice bonus. On top of all this, there is multiplayer modes which I haven't tried, so I can't comment on. All in all, highly recommended, and unless you are very, very good at games and are combo streaming like a pro from the start, this should last you a while. If you have a short attention span, or are not interested in perfecting all the scenes and may get bored once you've played through all the scenes, this may be just a rental for you. Personally, I'm loving it.
At last, a proper challenge....... September 3, 2007 M. Magill (Hitchin, UK) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
As soon as I heard that this game was being made I was excited. I loved the original on the PS2 (even if it was the hardest game in the world). So 2 weeks ago I downloaded the demo on Xbox live and fell in love with it straight away and on Friday I picked a copy of it up. 4 hours later I was still playing it. Its got a great learning curve, a top points system and a massive choice of vehicles. Even though you can complete a level on more or less your third turn at it, your pulled back for more trying to get a full 5 stars for each scene, by drifting every corner and trying to get closer and closer to every object to string your stunt bonus together. Thats where the real challenge lies, getting to the end of each scene with a perfectly stringed stunt bonus. If you like games that give value for money and lots of playability then this is a must by. But If you get easily fustrated, cant handle a good challenge or didnt like the original then id rent for a trial.

Just to let you know this review is based on the demo I have played on the 360 :) I was always a fan of the original Stuntman on the PS2 (hideously difficult though it was) so I was pleased when a sequel was announced, having not really read anything about the sequel I was a bit surprised to be checking the marketplace and find a downloadable demo! Anyway, the demo contains 3 different stages - 2 of which are from the same 'movie' and 1 that (obviously) isnt. First off, it is a lot more lenient now in regards to mistakes, with the 1st game the rule was one mistake and you start the stage again , the sequel however gives you 5 chances and an easy mode for wimps that has more chances but earns you half the score of normal mode! Also players of the original will be pleased to hear that once a level is loaded, restarting it is nearly instant which is great after the horrible PS2 loading times. As I mentioned, you can now make up to 5 mistakes before you have to restart the scene but believe me, this still doesnt make the game easy by any means....of the 3 stages in the demo I have got 4 stars on the first, 3 on the second and I can't do the third yet :P The star rating is based on your score, which increases with successful stunts, drifting, getting close to other vehicles/scenery...all the usual things that increase the score but you can now string all these things together in a Tony Hawks a-like combo system, it is actually possible to string the entire stage into 1 huge combo and that is the only way to 5 star it. Anyway, to finish off if you liked the original then so far I can safely say you will enjoy this one even more, the graphics are of course far better than the original as expected and the controls are spot on, what more can be said other than....Bring on the full game!

Ever since Project Gotham came out for the Xbox, i have been looking for another driving game to come and knock my socks off. PGR had everything, a good learning curve, replayability trying to ace every single race to get the cars you desired. And on a whim i bought Stuntman II: Ignition. This is the very first driving game which has left me in two states... one of being just really content to play oevr and over again in a fun loving way, and then the other state which is rip roaring aggression to master every single race. At first i thought it was impossible to get over 2 stars on any race, however once I hit the odd jobs, i had a revelation, and i went straight back to the first levels... and 5 star after 5 star came (after playing and replaying and replaying the level!!) This is not a bad thing at all. It is about becoming the master stuntman and mastering every vehicle from monster trucks, to lorries carrying a scud missile to motorbikes. They all drive differently, and you have to adjust your play to crack them. The stunts themselves are brilliantly thought out, from driving through a lava encircled town after a volcano eruption, to a Dukes of hazzard type movie... they are all brilliant fun. The only gripe i have about this (and it is a very small one) is the fact that in the action replays and trailers for the movies, you can actually see the ramps you jump over. It would have been far better to disguise them as in a proper movie... however you can not play this game and want to master it without noticing the imperfections of the game! ;) As mentioned, the string system is basically that of Tony Hawkes (although i would put it more on the Kudos system of PGR) so every time you get close to an object, go through a time gate, get air, go on two wheels-(obviously this is for the cars, and wheelies for the bikes, hitting directors marks (doing specific stunts, such as 180 degree turns, getting close to cars, bumping cars, and cashing cars) you name it, and it is there! The controls are very easy, you have accelerate, brake left and right, handbrake, and the all important action button. This sets your car on fire, slide your bike, triggers an explosion, or makes you shoot out of your car. It is of ocurse all done to the directors wishes. The cut scenes (which are basically trailers for the movies you have just completed) are briliant. They are really cheesey, and WILL put a smile on your face, and are well worth doing the scenes just to see the trailers! There are some beautiful graphics in this game, the sound is OK, nothing amazing, but the dialogue at the end of the stunt scenes reflect how you did, and can be very amusing too. Briliant game, and if you like driving games that will test you, then go for this... oh, and don't bother with the easy mode, it is utterly pointless, as it is very easy to get one star so that you can progress.

Based purely on the demo, available on Xbox live, I love this game. It is quite tricky to play but the learning curve is not so steep a mountain goat would shudder. Having stuck it out for a few hours on the 3 stages available I managed to build up a good rapport with the control system, 2 of which are available and managed to get to grips with the tasks required, namely hitting your markers and staying in view of the movie camera's filming your progress through each level. You are given five chances to get things wrong, more in easy mode, if you do so you start again, which is not repetative as you would imagine. It is really a thrill to blast through a stage and get things right, which you can watch back in instant replay mode. I have not played this game before and love it's originalty, it is very innovative and looks stunning also, very much a big showcase for next gen graphics. In all a great balance of eye candy, innovative gameplay and a good dose fun to boot. I hope the game in full delivers on the same level as the demo, I for one am willing to give it a try.
