As a one liner intro to this review: this is a good game that I would recommend to any recreational gamer (if you are the type who plays a game 24/7 for 3 weeks and then says 'there is nothing to this game' then it's not for you). Yes, it lacks a 'real' story line to follow through in the manner the likes of Gears of war/Lost Planet do, but then this is in a different genre. What it does give you is the ability to 'mess around' that a lot of the other X360 games just don't. I must admit I spent hours just driving/running around doing tricks and stuff completely ignoring the plot just to see what the game can do - and it certainly does not disappoint. For me this is the greatest thing about this game, you can turn it on for 5 minutes or for 5 hours and you can get something out of it without worrying about 'getting stuck' and walking away - it all depends on what you are looking for. Similarly it's 'mess around' factor makes it a good social game if you have a few mates back post pub, in the same way GTA did on the PS2. Just to quickly address some other reviews - I have had this game for about 2 months, and whilst I don't play on it continuously, it is still something I go back to and enjoy. I leant it to my brother for a week and he has now gone out and bought it. Similarly I found the targeting and controls absolutely fine. Buy if: - You like to mess around and not follow a restrictive story line - You like GTA series but want a superman/batman angle on it (or can't be bothered to wait for new release) - Aren't too bothered about ultra-realism, the graphics are supposed to be kind of cartoony/marvel I guess Don't buy if: - You are going to spend 8 hours a day playing (you'll prob get bored due to the next point) - You want a major story to get involved in - You expect this to be a 'proper' shooter, this is NOTHING like Gears of war etc. - You have a girlfriend who says things like 'this is a bit silly, its not very realistic' If you aren't sure then rent/borrow first. You'll know within a few hours whether you like the format or not.
A Must buy February 6, 2007 Mr. Graham Paterson (Glasgow) 22 out of 30 found this review helpful
Just like everyone else, i have only played the demo from the Marketplace but oh my god what a game. I have played it constantly, secretly wishing there was some way of removing the time limit so i can fully explore. The joy of just jumping from rooftop to rooftop without having a care in the world is sublime. Cynics said that Microsoft is bundling the Halo 3 beta to up sales of Crackdown. The game doesn't need any help to shift copies as speaking for myself I could see people losing hours playing this game. For everyone out there, I just have 3 words: BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!!
Maybe one of the best August 29, 2006 R. P. A. Reynolds (Nottingham, UK) 13 out of 111 found this review helpful
Even though this game isnt out yet there is a feeling that it will be up in the Top 5 best of the Xbox 360, will a huge city to jump, run, drive and shoot across who could resist this game for what it is.....pure fun and mayhem. What attracted me to this game is the transformable cars I personally don't know the full details on this, my opinion is that it will either be your upgradable stats will determine what your car, bike etc will actually look like or it just could be a set transformation.....I like the first idea myself..
Demo Review February 2, 2007 Ilkar 13 out of 19 found this review helpful
I have been playing the extensive demo version of "Crackdown" for hours and hours. There's is only one way to describe the fascination of this game: Truly innovative gameplay! This is the first "sandbox"-game in which the given freedom knows no restrictions: In "Crackdown" there are no boundries where the player can go. Every place you can see in the game you can actually reach. And that's the area of gameplay where "Crackdown" really stands out. "Crackdown" is indeed what the flawed "Just Cause" could have been on paper. The game maybe not perfect but from what the demo shows off it is quite an evolution to the crowded genre. "Crackdown" is destined to be a real show stealer.

This is an amazing game, i bought it the day after it came out after reading the review in Official Xbox magazine and playing the game on Xbox live. At first it didnt blow me away, but as i played on and my skills like agility improved, i couldn't stop playing the thing! When you upgrade the level, You can jump higher, bridging those rooftop gaps that you couldn't reach before, there is a true feeling of skill when you land an amazing height and an amazing distance!!! the handling of the cars is an important factor of the game and they have done it brilliantly, as it is such a big place, and after your skill increases the cars become outstandingly fast and look great The downside is that the missions aren't varied enough to games like GTA. I've only just got a xbox and its by far the best ive seen. Superb gameplay!!! You have to buy this!!!!!!!!!
