Amazon.co.uk Review:
In a nutshell:
Splinter Cell returns with an all-new story of double-dealing terrorists and uncomfortable moral decisions. Its greatest new feature though is its multiplayer, which continues to expand into the definitive online stealth experience.

The lowdown:
You can only imagine that Sam Fisher must get a good pension, because he doesn't seem to have an easy life. This time his role as a double agent in a terrorist group forces him to constantly make difficult moral choices, from big set piece decisions on whether to execute hostages to simple choices in-game such as whether to help out civilians. Although there are few significant changes to the controls this time around, for once most of the game doesn't take place in the dark. Stealth is still paramount though, especially since two onscreen trust meters track whether you're still in favour with both the terrorists and the NSA. The terrorist base also acts as a sort of hub world which you keep returning to between missions and slowly explore and unlock as the game's story unfurls.

Most exciting moment:
The expanded Spies vs. Mercenaries multiplayer game now has even less connection to the single player campaign, with the spies using only hand-to-hand combat and moving much faster than Sam Fisher. It now supports a total of six players at once and is one of the few online action games to offer a genuine alternative to the normal first person deathmatches.

Since you ask:
The next Splinter Cell game is subtitled Conviction and is due out some time next year. Controversially it has been announced as an Xbox 360 and PC exclusive only, with no PlayStation 3 or Wii versions currently scheduled.

The bottom line:
The best Splinter Cell yet, particularly in multiplayer mode.-HARRISON DENT

5 out of 5 stars The Best Splinter Cell Ever!! In Fact The Ultimate Stealth Game!!   October 23, 2006

First of all i have to say im a big fan of the splinter cell series and none of them has looked so clean and sharp and incredibly detailed!! Sam Fisher has never looked better. Also The level design on this game is trumendous, even tho the game is very linear, it doesnt take away the hugeness of each level especially the congo mission! In my opinion I didnt like the timed missions in the JBA HQ levels where one of the main bad guys u end up working for makes you do a specific task eg. assemble mines or decrypt an email and u have a certain time to do it. However the catch is the NSA (the good guys) want you to break away from this task and go snooping around. While this is fun to do and really intense, the time really puts a clamp on the intensity. If you fail to do tasks on each mission for either faction, you lose trust in the form of trust meters, if either one reaches zero its game over, very cool! I wont spoil the game too much for you but i definately recommend this game to anyone. Another thing id like to add that i love about this game is Sams new skills, he has all of the moves from Chaos Theory except a few additions which include a move where you would be swimming underneath thin ice and if you swim underneath an enemy you can kill him by punching through the ice and dragging the enemy underwater and stabbing him in the heart! And yes sam now uses his knife to eliminate people! Another awesome addition is if sam has his back to a wall beside a corner or door and an enemy walks past, Sam can grap the enemy without coming off the wall which results him in doing either putting the enemy in a sleeper hold or bringing him to the ground in a sleeper hold. Everytime sam grabs an enemy you can choose whether to kill or KO your foe, if you bring a foe to the ground and you choose to kill him, sam snaps the guys neck!! Pretty kool huh?! Sam is relentless in this game and its a unreal quality and suits him to a tee!!
Definately get this game!! You owe it to yourself

This is the latest installment in the Splinter cell series and in my opinion the best. In many descision making games the player can feel detached from the actual game and so has no moral problem with doing bad deeds as it will also not effect the game in a massive way, but in double agent depending on what your actions are you will gain or lose trust from either the NSA (the secret government branch you work for) or JBA (terrorist group you are infiltrationg) and complete loss of trust of either party results not just in mission failure but failure in the entire game, there is no chance to redeem yourself later on, every decision must be carefully considered and so no rash descisions can be made, killing innocents: Nsa trusts you less/ JBA trusts you more, Let the innocents live: NSA trusts you more/ JBA trusts you less.
Despite this new angle the game has not lost the stealth factor that has made the series so popular. Primarily the missions are for the JBA but there are certain NSA objectives that can be carried out during the missson, such as contacting lambert (your NSA boss) using the mission location's communications equpment that you are supposed to be shutting down. The JBA also have, optional, secondary objectives such as assasinating a key figure, not essential to the mission but the action will gain you trust.
As well as missions themselves there are semi-missions that take place in the JBA base. Here you are left alone for a certain amount of time to do a task for the JBA but often they give you way too much time, this is for a reason, during this time there are other objectives that you can choose to do, from the JBA and the NSA. The JBA objectives are often very simple tasks and are easy to complete and will gain trust from the JBA but the NSA objectives are entirely different, they often take place in a restricted area of the base meaning you have to sneak in and if you are caucht in a restricted area you will be either shouted at, told to leave and trust taken away untill you leave the area, or you are shot on site :-(
The This new installment has a refreshing angle on a well established genre without losing it's appeal to old fans of the series. also the new trust system can have as bigger or smaller effect on gameplay as you like. I hope i was helpful. BUY THIS GAME NOW!!

Splinter Cell Double Agent comes highly recommeneded and more than lives up to the pre-realese hype. It still contains the gameplay elements from the previous games but adds many different scenarios than were absent in prevously. The game is now very open ended, due to the decisions you make have a direct impact on the story which is very enjoyable. The graphics on the 360 and fantastic, with excellent lighting, cut scenes which really make you feel involved in the whole thing. Music, Sound and voice acting is also of a very high standard due to 2 hollywood actors being in the majority of it, Once the game has you gripped the hours will just fly by!!! Can't recommend this game enough. *****

The first time I ever played Splinter Cell was when I got my very first Xbox, didn't order the game specifically, just a package deal for Christmas. Since that day I played it I've been completely hooked. The characters, the story... all just brilliant.

In Double Agent, you get everything your bargaining for if you have played and enjoyed the first game, even counting Pandora Tommorow and Chaos Theory. Nothing has changed for the worse, and btw you do really feel like a double agent :P

The graphics are absolutely brilliant, exactly what I had imagined for next gen consoles. And if you don't have an HD TV, (I don't) DO NOT BE PUT OFF!! I'm using an old normal crt tv and it looks breathtaking. So overall I'm giving this 5 stars, I have no gripes with the game at all.

Sound: 5 Stars - Same sound as always :)

Graphics: 5 Stars - Can't even find the words..

Gameplay: 5 Stars - Very tense and exciting, they added quite a few mini games this time, well they had some last time but not as many as this!

So if your wondering if this one is as good as the last few then stop wondering right now. And if you've never played SC before... hehe let the good times roll.

Im writing this as i am waiting for a 25 minute countdown on one of the early missions of the game.

The training missions are confusing and metal gear solid esque. Not really much training, more learning how to walk, and jump. That is about it. The graphics are not perfect, but its easy to notice the fine tuning. Lovley poly's not great texures. You get beads of sweat on sams head etc. Nice fine tuning. The game itself is confusing, giving you the chance to chose when to do each objective. Knowing nothing about the mission layout its hard to do this. It isnt obvious when your in the dark or not, the metre is confusing and is a simple green yellow or red instead of the old metre. The double agent part is hard to go by because you really have no idea why you should hold a gruge about each group of people. The story doesnt explain much either. Although all this sounds bad, im playing it alot and im addicted. Although im not having much fun. Its stiff and the views are confusing. You are thrown in the middle of the action at the start, and now at this point i am doing proper training, guns etc. Odd build.

Overall the game seems well made, if not a little confusing. Not much action after 3 hours of gameplay, but we wil see how it pans out later.
