Product Description Xbox Live is an online multiplayer gaming and content delivery system that allows registered users to create their own friends list of other users, and communicate with them via a mail-like system of either text or voice messages which can even be used to send a message to an offline user. With the new Xbox Live Vision camera, users can also send snapshot images to offline friends or video conference with them when they?re online. With the launch of the Xbox 360, Xbox Live went through a major change. The most notable change is the establishment of two subscription types, called Silver and Gold. Xbox Live Silver is free to all Xbox 360 owners. While it does not allow access to online play, it still has access to other Xbox Live features such as the friends list, messages, and the Xbox Live Marketplace. Xbox Live Gold, which requires a monthly or yearly subscription fee, allows users to access all available features on Xbox Live. Although there are no parental controls available in Xbox Live, any reports of misuse of the service for criminal or sexual purposes results in a permanent ban of the account.Key Features:Xbox Live has a number of great community-focused features and benefits such as:Gamertags - for user identificationAvatars - gamer pictures for association with gamer tagsMottos - for display on gamer profilesGamer zones - which represents your gaming style and influences player matchmaking (Recreation, Pro, Family, Underground)Game achievements - shows how well you and your friends are doing in a gameReputation rating - voted on by other players who decide to either prefer or avoid another playerGamerscores - a total of a player's achievement pointsFriends list - a list of a player's chosen friendsRecent player list - lists the last 50 players one user has played withXbox Live Marketplace content - download demos, trailers, new and retro gamesMultiplayer online gameplay - play against other gamers across the globeEnhanced m

Xbox live is probably one of the best things about owning an Xbox 360. The system is so effective that I'd have been happy even if the visual capabilities of the console weren't so good.So what's so great about Live then? Well, for anyone who's played PC games online, you'll know that you have to create an account for every single one of them, which can be confusing if nothing else. Xbox live allows you to create one account, linked to your hotmail account if you so wish, allowing you to play any compatible game online without having to register every time. Aside from this, Live now allows you to download playable demo's, video's and pictures to your Xbox 360's hard drive. There is also a new thing called "Xbox Live Arcade". This is where you can play some 80's classics and a range of puzzle games. Live also has a few neat touches that round off the whole experience. You can now have a Gamercard. This is where you can show off how many achievements you've unlocked and how good your online reputation is. Its only a small thing, but it makes a neat package even better. The Membership card for sale here allows you access to the Online gaming element of Live (the rest is free). If you have Project Gotham 3 or Dead or Alive 4, it is essential. At £32 it works out at £2.60 per month, which is fantastic value for money. If you want to play against other people from around the world, there is no better system.
Quite simply the best. June 29, 2007 Mr. J. W. Murphy (Bolton, UK) 21 out of 25 found this review helpful
Others may moan about having to pay for this but you for 9p a day its a bargain compared to the amount of fun you can have with all its features compared to the rather featureless online system sony has. The reviewer below seems to think that setting up an online gaming network costs about a fiver and that MS is just using this as a ploy to get mega rich, this is not the case.
The amount of effort put in and costs for things such as bandwidth means it can be an expensive business, sure Sony's online network is free but you have no where near the amount of features and some games dont even have online play as Sony make the games developer pay for all tools and costs whereas for Live microsoft does it all for them, remember you get what you pay for! Another great thing is that you can have all the features such as downloading trailers/demos and still chat to friends for free.
You only have to pay for playing online which is rather good because you hardly get any idiots like you did on the PS2 games who would setup multiple profiles and go team killing an entire game, if they tried this on Live they would get their account banned and would have to pay for a new one which I'm guessing they wouldnt be bothered to do for the sake of team killing unless they are very rich.
It would be nice to know if this is still dominant on Sonys network as you are still able to setup as many accounts as you like and use them to annoy other players, which frankly I would pay the fee alone for just to get rid of them.
Cancellation Nightmare October 21, 2007 Mr. S. A. Brown (Kilmarnock, Scotland) 20 out of 30 found this review helpful
I love Xbox Live, but I feel someone has to draw attention to the immoral sales tactics used with respects to cancellations. The only way to cancel is to phone a customer service number where you're kept on hold for a lengthy period of time and harassed by a customer service representative concerning your reasons for cancelling the service - why do I have to justify cancelling the service exactly? What's more, it took me several attempts to actually cancel my account (which is automatically renewed) because the operator had "no record" of my gamertag - despite my account still working perfectly.
This is completely unacceptable and quite frankly Microsoft have ruined a terrific service by opting for the gutter tactics of making it easy to sign up for an account but as difficult as possible to cancel. With this said, I love the product and I can only hope that if enough people complain or don't resubscribe - and I point blank refuse to resubscribe given the way I was treated - Microsoft will eventually change their sales tactics.

hi, xbox live is the coolest thing that ever came to gaming. yo have not experienced 99.9% of a game if you haven't got this. you think you're good, test your skills against anyone else in the world, speak to them and even see them with a vision camera. on rainbow six you can map your own face on the police offficer so that your shooting up those terrorists. requires video camera. you can download demos from the xbox live marketplace for FREE and also download famous arcade games such as Pacman/worms/uno etc. also trailers of games are availible and more gamer pictures and themes for your dashboard. or if you're into music you can download music videos. this suits everything. to find out if your games are compatible with xbox live look at the top of the cover and it should say xbox live", this is mst games. you can also send messages and create friends lists. gamescore is unlockable. for one year 35 pounds is excellent. that's less than 3 pound a month and you'll be playing on it alot. you won't regret it, meet you on there. thanks.
