STAY CLEAR!!June 25, 2008 S. Page(UK) 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
This "game" is a great disappointment. It's unfinished and unresponsive, like running through water. And here's the test... Use the Nunchuck to move your player and hold the remote in the air. The player will always hit the ball without you moving. It's an absolute wash out. NO player creation NO changing weather NO career mode or ladder to climb Very poor player reaction. Terrible control system that lags a few seconds behind your own reactions. Back to the beloved Wii sports!
Great graphics - poor gameplayJune 20, 2008 Mr. D. A. Wilmot(Nottingham, UK) 18 out of 21 found this review helpful
Tennis on Wii Sports is still one of my favourite games so I was realy looking forward to this. The game looks great on the wii but the controls are poor. In wii sports you put spin on the ball or more or less power on the shot as you would with a real racket. This plays very similar to table tennis where its more about pressing the button (or in this case holding the wii remote at a strange angle) before the shot. The opponents are beatable without it being too easy but it just feels like you're swinging the remote at the right time rather than playing a real tennis game...
Again, comparing to tennis on wii sports where you direct your shot by angling the racket or slicing across the ball etc in Top Spin you use the joystick on the nunchuk...
Very disappointed...
It's also disappointing that there is no online mode but I can't mark the game down for that as I was aware of that before I bought it...
Is anyone else bringing another tennis game out soon?
Beware if you are left handedJune 20, 2008 Mr. Da Jones(United Kingdom) 8 out of 12 found this review helpful
The game itself is brilliant. However, this game does not cater for left handed people like Wii Sports does (no option to change). I am left-handed and I have tried playing right handed which is very awkward (you would not play real tennis with your opposite hand!). Shame really because its great but I just can play it properly (i.e if I swing for a back-hand the game character swings a forehand and vice versa which makes it hard to put 'top spin' on your forehand) Buy it if you are right handed - dont if you are a lefty (and join me in begging Nintendo to release a 'full' tennis game like the one on Wii Sports!!!!!!!
Long awaited....but disappointingJune 27, 2008 O. R. Turner(South Yorkshire, UK) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I've enjoyed playing the Wii Sport tennis for over a year, and have long been looking forward to a more fully featured tennis game to be released. While the in game graphics in Top Spin are much better than on Wii Sports, the gameplay is a big let down. The players lumber slowly around the court, a shot can be made by moving the control backwards even if you don't bother swinging forward, the menus are annoying and every time I turned off the music it would come back on next time I loaded the game. Also, having the nunchuck attached to the controller is a bit restrictive when you're trying to pretend to be Roger Federer.
A week on, and I'm back on Wii Sports Tennis again and appreciating what a good game it is! I think what I would like to see now is a slightly more developed version from Nintendo.
Worth the buy!June 23, 2008 D. Minter(UK) 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
I was excited about Topspin 3 when it came out because there hadn't been a tennis game out yet on the wii apart from sports. I really like the graphics and the gameplay, however sometimes it doesn't respond to the way im swinging the remote. This can be a bit annoying at times but that's the only downside about it. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who loves tennis and just wants a quick game.
