Unbelievably Good November 9, 2007 Mr. S. C. Green (UK) 44 out of 52 found this review helpful
As a big Call of Duty 3 fan, I was a looking forward to COD 4 knowing that if it was not up to the pre-release hype, then I would still have my trusty COD 3 to fall back on. Wow, I needn't have worried a bit. First of all, I have only played both ganes online so will not comment on the single player modes. The online experience of COD 4 is, quite frankly, awesome. The graphics, movement, weapons choice, scenarios are beyond comparison. There is no lag at all and although the action can be sometimes frantic, it is extremely enjoyable. I thought that the online chatter between players was initially annoying, but after hearing some guy you just shot say "Where did he come from" turns it into an amusing experience. The detail that the developers have put into this game is stunning. For instance, I shot a tyre off an oil drum (believing it to be an enemy sniper) and it flew into the air and rolled down the street - Fabulous! I completely recommend this game and it'll be the best 40 you'll ever spend

There isnt much that can be said about Call of Duty 4 that hasnt already. Single player is an amazing experience and puts everything else on the market to shame. This is no exaggeration, as COD4 has left me with a serious shooter fix. Level design is similar to Infinity Wards last offering, Call of Duty 2, but the modern setting reinvigorates a franchise in a heavily saturated market. Its execution is flawless, there are original, dark set pieces, like living out the last moments of a middle Eastern President before he is executed; or experiencing a nuclear explosion firsthand. Having played this regularly since its release, my only gripes are the fact doors cant be opened and there is no cover system. Yet these can hardly be called faults, as they in no way affect the game. Everything is sublime. The game itself is quite short, but the levels will be replayed again and again. Especially in arcade mode, unlocked after completing the main campaign. Kills convert to points, and combos can be performed by chaining them together. This provides a new approach to previously played levels. Multiplayer has some inegnious ideas which add massively to proceedings. There is a level up system, based on total experience. Promotion opens up new game modes and options. The list is staggering and has set the template for online gaming. One of the greatest shooters ever made. As simple as that.
Fantastic. Just Fantastic. November 14, 2007 Paul Munro (Northants) 32 out of 37 found this review helpful
Having played the CoD games since the beginning on both PC and console, I have to say that this release blows my mind. It's actually quite revolutionary compared to the other releases (CoD3 being quite good in its own right), and this is seen not only in its graphical content (which is brilliantly presented) but also in the cinematic effects, story, and bonus features (arcade mode is a fantastic touch to an already great game). The power of the PS3 isn't really harnessed since I think this is a port, but even so the graphics are definitely going to be hard to beat on any platform. Online gets a "5" too- it is an amazingly fun addition to the game. Coupled with LAN party capability, split screen, and (as I said already) arcade mode there are hours of game play to be found here. In its single player mode the game is no less of a beast- it is a little short, but the difficulty levels make up for that and add some longevity. I don't want to spoil the game for those that have yet to play it but one of the levels finds you thrown out of a chopper after a tactical nuclear weapon is let off during your extraction. The graphics and atmosphere here were nothing short of breath-taking. This game has guts and it's hard to find much wrong with it at all. I would recommend this to all PS3 owners- it will no doubt be the standard for FPS for some time to come.
Most advanced Shooter! October 8, 2007 A. Banjoko (North London, England) 16 out of 45 found this review helpful
Seeing as someone below decided to warn us of rating the game. I would only speak about the differences between this game and most shooters. -Dramatic, hectic, hellraising campaign and war (Normal Call of Duty style) -Call in Airstrikes to wipe out enemy (multiplayer and campaign) -Wide array of weapons -Use UAV's, Helicopters to take out enemies like in real war -Laser sighting, Javelin rockets, gun grenades you name it -Shoot through walls -Control UK SAS and US special forces -Perks (Multiplayer) for example reload quicker, run faster has to be earnt. -More realistic explosions and destructable environments (not totally destructable like Crysis) -Very good graphically -Voice acting is excellent. Actual Russian language and accents included. -Already rated Gold. -Not another limited World War 2 game. A modern approach allowing for more features, advanced weapons and technologies and maximum potential of gameplay. -realistic physics -Army experts worked on the game. Game tested thoroughly and played by people in the Army! (who were actually in Iraq and Afghanistan) A must buy. Already ordered mine!

never been my cup of tea but dam this game is great, yes the single mode is short but as we all know its about the online side of it. This game is just god dam awesome tones of weapons and amazing graphics. Looks wise it is not hugely different from the xbox version but then again it is a multiformat game. Just get it, play it, love it,
