frustrating to start with....... July 18, 2006 wizwo (york,uk) 17 out of 20 found this review helpful
First flight sim i've played on a console and was very dissappointed and frustrated to start with: problems - limited manouverabilty (could only bank to 90 degrees) -nigh on impossible to dodge missiles. -first few mission were so easy it was like shooting fish in a barrel then you become unstuck, cos you cant point the plane in the direction you want quickly enough -the background music.... give me strength BUT - have altered the settings e.g from arcade to realistc, weapons select to manual, customised my payload improved missle dodging skills and now the game has potential. -you can also select your own music thanks to the wonder of the 360. -storyliine remains poor but, hey, am just there to shoot things and i mostly ignore the AI babble not tried the game online yet so cannot comment if you are patient and persistent, over G is not a bad buy. Good, but not great.

I dithered for days over buying this game because of the plethora of bad reviews, especialy in the trade press; finally it sunk in that there were also a lot of good reviews out there...mostly by flight sim fans (like me!) So i bought it, i've never reveiwed a game before, but this game is so good, just so much fun; that i had to, BUY IT! Slow it isn't, all flight games seem slow at altitude; try a carrier landing, buzzing the deck or flying head to head with another jet: it ain't slow! Repetitve? Well there are only certain elements to air combat aren't there? Doom is repetitive..even so it's fun but this is sheer hi octane joy...if you are, like me; a mug for PC sims you will love this game; it does everything you ever wanted without the bugs, crashes, slowdowns and fiddly controls. You must set all the options on top difficulty, highest realism; be patient for the first four missions or so which are easy and short as the program holds hands with you for a while but then the difficulty curve begins to tip up for the stratosphere and you start to enjoy...me i'm of to play some more.
Pretty poor July 18, 2006 Tezzer05 (Buckinghamshire, England) 10 out of 15 found this review helpful
Rule out any posative reviews about this game. The bad things that are said about it like extremely poor voice acting, graphics, story and pretty much overall gameplay is true. Sure the graphical detail on the aeroplanes are pretty great but that doesnt change the fact that you dont see ANY moving mouths in briefings or what not. Its all anime or manga or whatever in the briefings and even then, the characters mouths dont move they just look at you from different angles. It is a pretty typical oriental style game I think, you get really cruddy rock in game and in the cutscenes, the menus and loading screens get really tedeous too. You would think in a "next gen" flight sim game would have bots spawning so close to you that you woulnt even get time to lock onto them with your long or medium range missiles. But in Over G you do at times. For me the only good thing about this game is being able to pick the F18 hornet, switch into 3rd person and admire the coolness of the plane I'm flying as well as shooting other fighters in a medium range dogfight because tahts so satisfying. From what I gather, chaff and flares are supposed to help if not MAKE the missiles miss you. Not in OverG, in this game you might as well not bother. I have switched it onto automatic flares/chaffs so that I can consintrate on dodging the missile by pulling stupidly sharp turns while listening to "Chaff flare... chaff flare... chaff flare..." while the on board computer is automatically realeasing chaff and flares. Dont get me wrong there are a few good things about the game but to be honest the bad things completely out weigh the good things. But thats my opinion. Oh yes one last thing, the game is a flight sim.... its NOT fun its serious gameplay not something you can pick up and have a quick go or play for 15 minutes while your waiting to go out or to kill some time, you need to get "involved" in order to do the missions so its not fun like a game like Blazing Angels or DOD source or something.
How could you not like this game??? August 22, 2006 Charles 'Hawkins' McPie (UK) 10 out of 16 found this review helpful
I am amazed at some of the other reviewers for this game! This is one of the best xbox 360 games yet! If you look up next-gen in the dictionary I wouldn't be surprised if the deffinition was Over G Fighters. Yes it is that good! The graphics are majestic and the gameplay is more addictive than Deja vu 1 & 2 The casebooks of Ace Harding. The lifespan is just incredible; I've never played a game for longer without completeting it! I strongly believe all you hawks who own a xbox 360 should order Over G Fighters, but be warned: this fantabadousy game will take over ur life! Gameplay: 9/10 Graphics:9/10 Lifespan: 10/10 Hawk: yes
Poor July 30, 2006 Mr. N. J. Owen (Sussex,England) 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
I agree with all the negative comments in the previous reviews and fail to see how anyone can give this title 4 stars. Firstly the Mission briefing cut scenes are appaling, reminding me of a 1990s Capcom arcade machine. I agree the aircraft look stunnning and enthusiats will be in there element however it seems all the work has gone into this. Gameplay is poor and manoverablility of the aircraft is as if you were piloting a sopwith camel. I recall having more fun playing flight sims on my Amiga 500 back in the day. My advice if your a aircraft nut hire it first.
