Daddy of First Person War ShootersFebruary 20, 2008 Ed Banger(Manchester, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Seeing this on Amazon with no reviews I had to put my mark on this title. It was my introduction to online first person shooters back in the 90's and and more fun than a game ought to be.
Very dated now in the graphics department but just goes to show how gameplay really matters. An awesome array of firepower meant choices between the SAW light machine gun for spray and pray destruction. The semi auto nade launcher for mass killings. The silenced sniper rifle for stealthy long distance assassinations and the only game to feel like it got the Barrat .50 cal sniper rifles deadly characteristics right, with awesome telescopic sight and wall penetrating velocity.
This title was unfortunately killed off by lack of interest by the producers in stopping the cheats and hackers who destroyed the game in it's last days.
But it still remains an awesome milestone in gaming history. Seems strange to look back and know you could have so much fun with a Pentium 75 processor, 16 meg of ram and a 28k dialup modem.
For the sake of a fiver it's worth getting just to play the single player missions which might give a small taste of the fantastic fun this was with a copy of teamspeak and a few friends in a clan.
