Amazon.co.uk Review: In a nutshell: The latest retro movie license puts you in the ultra sweary shoes of Tony Montana as you fight to build back your drugs empire and help to rewrite the ending of the movie with the help of your little friend. The lowdown: It's hard not to think of Grand Theft Auto when you see this game, not least because Vice City ripped off most of the movie's soundtrack and key scenes. Although it features lots of automotive carnage and third person shooting, Scarface does try its best to offer some new features, as you buy fronts for your cocaine business, launder money and slowly raise your reputation with gangs across Miami. Where it falls down though is in the story missions, which require you to complete a lot of laborious sub quests and often include some fairly silly objectives. The otherwise authentic atmosphere is usually just enough to keep things ticking over though, particularly for movie fans. Most exciting moment: The best part of the game is definitely the combat and the one area where the game is definitely superior to Grand Theft Auto. Aiming is helped by a handy lock-on system and there's even a first-person rage mode for when Tony's maxes out his "balls" meter. Since you ask: Although Al Pacino's real face is used in the game, he hasn't recorded any new dialogue. However, the game does feature original cast members Steven Bauer and Robert Loggia, as well as celeb voiceovers from the likes of Ricky Gervais, James Woods and Cheech & Chong. The bottom line: No Grand Theft Auto beater but an interesting companion to the movie.- HARRISON DENT

Great idea... executed really badly November 1, 2006 Dave Thompson (England) 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
Now i'll start off by saying scarface is a great film, and to make a computer game out of it sounds like a pretty good idea, and it could have been great! But the game is jerky as anything compared to competition like San Andreas, and it's the little details that make it incrediably frustrating. Like when you first enter the game theres no menu for setting up controls, or anything, it just goes straight into the training itself (on the highest graphics settings possible i might add, so everything is rediculously slow, and yes my system did meet the minimum specs!) and then you can't even quit to a menu to solve the slow moving mouse settings that are default, it just goes straight into you getting shot at by loads of people. Then you can't save mid mission. Then you get into a car, and expect to be able to have a bit of fun like ala GTA san Andreas, only the cars are rediculously slow and handle like dogs! Also when i first bought the game i had to download a new patch off the internet right away cos it didn't even work! Overall, don't bother! Buy GTA San Andreas, it's way better, and if you already have it, save yourself some money and complete it again, you'll have more fun than playing this!
Just brilliant. December 13, 2006 A. Smith 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Have to say, i am extreemly impressed with this game. This is the game GTA should have been. It has an excellent 80`s feel to it, and the graphical detail which has gone into the locations has to be seen to be believed. All the locations from the film are in the game, like Tonys mansion, the Babylon Club etc.. etc.. The game has just the right level of difficulty. It starts of fairly easy to get you used to it, but then gets harder & harder. Its also very very addictive. I find myself playing it for hours. Neat touches, like the fact you cant just walk around brandishing a gun - your "cop heat" metre will raise and you`ll get arrested. The other characters whom you can take control of - like the assasin, the enforcer etc.. All the various cars, boats which you can buy - each has their own handling & performance. Plus the dozens of weapons you can use. Not to mention the massive soundtrack for this film. You can choose between latin, rock, 80`s, hiphop, etc.. etc... - you can even choose to play the original soundtrack from the film in the background!!! A neat touch is all the voices in the film - lemmy as the arms dealer, and various original actors from the movie doing voice parts. All in all, an excellent game, certainly one of the best ive played in a long time. Highly recommended.
pc buyer beware November 26, 2006 M. Barber 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I wanted something similar to GTA. Had read the PS2 reviews and purchased Scarface for the pc. Big mistake - after weeks of tweaking Direct X, Msconfig, Video and Sound drivers, checking web sites, installing patches etc, the game still won't run. Looking at the read me file and comments on various forums, there are many bugs in the pc version. A further patch has been issued for the North American version but this won't work for the U.K. game and there is no date yet for a U.K. patch to solve problems with video and sound card drivers. Don't buy unless you feel very lucky that it will run on your system or you want to spend many hours trying to get it to run or you don't mind waiting for what may be a very long time for the producers of the game to issue a patch.
Get over the config and you are there ! December 6, 2006 L. TANSEY (UK) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Massive Scarface fan therefore the nightmare Sierra put you through at the start was not good. Luckily I am IT aware and managed to download patch and altered the settings to a performance level better than SA. Still not good but the game play is top drawer. Only purchase if Sierra sort out the format.
Perfect! January 16, 2007 Mr. S. D. Sparkes (Bristol, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I had the game for Christmas and I love it. The game play is supurb you may say its much like GTA and I guess it is but this game has alot more offer plus better and more realistic graphics. When first starting the game you may find a few teething problems but there is a patch available, also the patch does not yet resolve the remapping of the keyboard or support a controller that well. To get around this I suggest you use a program that allows you to remape your keyboard to your controller (I suggest Saitek controller software) by doing this you should be able to play the game smoothly. Since solving the teething problems I have not put this game down it is alo very challenging as I ten to complete a game on average within a week on this one Im still going!
