Brilliant finale to an excellent series. September 10, 2000 25 out of 25 found this review helpful
This is the final video of the fabulous Beiderbecke Trilogy written by Alan Plater. This story follows the tale of Jill Swinburne (played by Barbara Flynn) and Trevor Chaplin (played by James Bolam) and their new baby "First-born". Jill has just returned to work after returning from maternity leave and they decide to employ a nanny to look after their new baby (whose is a former pupil of 3b). They then agree to provide a "safe-house" for a refugee called Ivan (the terrible) for Big Al and Little Norm. The writing is witty and very funny and the plot has many twists and turns along the way including many that you don't expect. A mixture of intrigue and humour. A lot of the old characters are back such as Big Al, Little Norm, Detective Sergeant Hobson, Mr Pitt and the two police constables. If you enjoyed the other two videos in this series then you will definitely love this one. You really need to have watched the first two tapes in the series to appreciate the plot and if you enjoyed the humour of shows like Preston Front then you will love this. Absolutely brilliant. I enjoy watching this again and again.

final part of one of the best series of all time. Watch them all - the Affair, the Tapes and the Connection. This series is the best because of Firstborn and Ivan, but all are great. Worth every penny - I can't believe they are still available on video.
