Amazon.co.uk Review An inspired casting gimmick, a wonderful mood, a grown-up love story--all this in The Fabulous Baker Boys, but the only thing anybody ever talks about is Michelle Pfeiffer on top of a piano. Granted, it's a showstopper: clad in a slinky dress, Pfeiffer rolls around on the Steinway while she purrs out a languid version of "Makin' Whoopee". Adding to the seductive vibe is the fact that she's not singing to the audience, but to the sullen piano player (Jeff Bridges) whose fancy she has captured. Bridges and his real-life brother, Beau, play two lounge entertainers whose act has grown stale; they're not above doing "Feelings" for the tourist crowd. They've hired songbird Pfeiffer (who does her own sexy singing) to spice up the routine, a strategy that pays off in spades. The three actors are terrific, with the fabulous Bridges boys playing neatly off their own sibling rhythms. Writer-director Steve Kloves captures the feel of second-rate Seattle clubs, and Dave Grusin's jazzy score keeps propelling the film forward. The story itself might have come from a 1940s romance, yet Kloves and his actors keep it unusually modern and thoughtful. And then there's Michelle Pfeiffer rolling around on top of a piano.... --Robert Horton

Moody, sexy, atmospheric and good tunes to boot! March 22, 2004 Mr. Dean R. Hughes 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Michelle Pfieffer is at her sensual best in this movie as the gum chewing, swearing Suzie Diamond. The Bridges brothers also contribute great performances, Beau as the older, geekier elder brother and Jeff as the cool, chain smoking jazz musician stifled by his brothers desires to earn good money on the music scene and musical limitations. The movie has a smooth, jazz feel to it which is great to relax to and the onscreen relationship between Pfieffer and Jeff Bridges really sizzles and the self destructiveness of it is captivating.Dave Grusin lends a score with a laidback, night time feel to it which captures the moods of the characters perfectly, and special mention must go to Michelle Pfieffers vocal performances on several classic standards, her version of My Funny Valentine is my favourite ever of the song. See them shine! October 23, 2000 Hessu (Turku, Finland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It is the huge charisma of Jeff Bridges and Michelle Pfeiffer that makes this movie a great one. Jeff Bridges is a master of the understatement acting. The plot is not the thing here, but the complicated relationships between the characters. DVD is the right format for a movie like this: you are able to select and watch to the performances only, if you are in the mood for the sensual singing done by Michelle The Cat Woman.

GREAT FILM, GREAT MUSIC, GREAT ATMOSPHERE! THEY DON`T MAKE FILMS LIKE THAT ANYMORE....
Didn't think I would like this one but.... November 30, 2008 R. Essery (Monmouth, UK) Michelle Pfieffer delivers one of her best performances - her rendition of 'Makin Whoppee' is astonishing and the Bridges brothers are an excellent foil for her. I didn't think I would enjoy this film but it turned me around.
