Oh Dr Beeching is my favourite gentle British Sitcom. The laughs here are plentiful, but don't expect anything particularly original or inspiring. It's just some funny actors sharing some humerous lines around the glorius backdrop of an Railway Station in the 60's. The setting is quite delicious, with lots of lovely shots of the steam trains and the station's surroundings - and the attention to detail is marvellous. This could really be in the 60s.
Sue Pollard is a joy to watch, along with Paul Shane doing what he does best. Some of the other characters are a little boring though, and really serve as straight men for the others to reel off some more humerous gags.
Probably the main criticism is that the first series can be pretty repetetive... There are many ongoing plot lines that don't so much develop as just, well, keep reocurring.
Still, it's lovely gentle comedy that is a joy to watch and if you enjoy the likes of "As Time Goes By" or "Last of the Summer Wine", this should be to your liking as well.
