Those were the days......... January 29, 2004 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Aaahhh, back in the days when we didn`t have a care in the world and the warm summers lasted forever we were treated to The Glam Metal Detectives. The year was 1995 and for a brief 3 hours (6 episodes) the BBC excelled themselves with this utterly fantastic collection of comic clips including, of course, The Glams, a team of rock stars who are attempting to save the planets ecology with their hit records, Colin Corleone (he thinks he`s the Godfather) who lives with his mum in a council flat and is currently unemployed and Bettys mad dash, a 1930`s style cops and robbers chase with a difference. There are many other characters and short comedy adverts in between the "main features" all of which are fast paced and original. The Glams are brought to you by the same team that gave you "The Comic Strip Presents...." Enough said. I`m a bit dissapointed that it is not available on DVD and only the first 3 of the 6 episodes are available on VHS but still well worth forking out the price of a case of "Splat".
Deserves to be a cult classic August 14, 2006 Arquebusier1572 (Reading, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Glam Metal Detectives was brilliant in so many ways - conceptually, visually for starters, also razor-sharp in its satire and mostly very well acted. Peter Richardson was a genius and GMD shows him at his best. Why the BBC didn't give this another series to see if it would take off is beyond me. This is much funnier than anything else from the late 1980s until Spaced or The Office. Deserves to be a legend, and one can only lament that BBC didn't invest in it.
Sorreeyyy!!! September 6, 2007 Mr B (Welsh Borders) Excellent Stuff!! Better than I remembered it. Some excellent sketches. A travesty it didn't get a bit more backing!!! Hopefully this show will be available to all again in time. Surely "Betty's mad dash" should be a sitcom, potential half-eight comedy writers should watch this and expand the sketch ideas for the good of mankind!
She's his Mama! Hug the Mama! March 27, 2008 Ms. Felicia Davis-burden (Staines, UK) Hilarious send-ups of all sorts of TV and cinema genres. Particular gems include: Colin Corleone, a wouldbe mobster living on benefits in a council flat with two dorky sidekicks who provide the entire Godfather soundtrack themselves while guarding the Boss... 'Scandel in a Diving Bell', award-winning drama full of (very) small-scale upsets... 'Betty's Mad Dash', two flapper-girls armed with pistols, lipsticks and frightfully nice naughtiness... 'Bloodsports', the showcase for all things going off in carparks, pubs and alleys... Why don't the BBC revive and continue this brilliant series? Anyway, enjoy this VHS of three out of the original 6 crazy programmes. And you get Jeff Beck's guitar on the themetune! 'Funk and Justice for all, GMD!'
