Amazon.co.uk Review Billy Connolly's travel programmes have some difficulty deciding if they are records of his stand-up tours or travelogues interrupted by the occasional comedy routine. Fortunately in his World Tour of England, Ireland and Wales the two elements complement one another more often than they distract from each other. This series, which sees Connolly traversing the respective countries on his trademark motorised tricycle, is agreeable if ultimately insubstantial viewing. That Connolly is an engaging presenter is no surprise: he has, after all, constructed a successful career from an ability to get large numbers of strangers to like him. However, probably due to the here-today-gone-tomorrow logistics of touring, his insights into the places he visits tend to be fleeting and predictable: in Dublin he plays the banjo in a pub, in Belfast he visits the shipyards and the more picturesque Republican and Loyalist neighbourhoods, in London he climbs the tower at Westminster Palace that houses Big Ben, and so on. Nobody who watches this, especially, if they have any first-hand knowledge of the cities, is going to learn anything they didn't already know. As if in acknowledgement of the lack of narrative weight, there are an awful lot of lingering aerial shots of the locations. But with less money spent on helicopter hire, and more time to get to grips with the locations and, more crucially, the people who live in them, Connolly could do much better than this. On the DVD:: Billy Connolly's World Tour on disc has a clever and witty interactive menu map of the countries visited that also offers an assortment of random trivia relating to each location. The special features are a link to Connolly's official Web site, and a chance to hear some of the music from the series in isolation. --Andrew Mueller

Superb September 16, 2002 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Having watched the series I looked forward to the DVD edition. The one reason I wanted the DVD, simple the soundtrack. Billy Connolly is a superb comedian and some of his stories are just painfully funny. Some of the Characters he meets and his enthusiam for the History of the places he visits, made the series so intresting. But add to that the bounus of the soundtrack on Audio, with contributions from Ralph McTell and Cara Dillion (probably the best vocal talent in the UK) and you have something that is simply brilliant.

This is the boxset filled with all the televised shows from billy connolys world tour. It features clips from various shows on his tour including live at Dublin. You basically follow Billy around England, Ireland and Wales while he gives you a taste of the history, then you see him performing the following night at a concert. The dvd also features some of the music used in the tour. This item is an essential purchase for all Billy fans, and will make your belly ache with laughter!

Excellent stuff! Billy never goes wrong.....he is a brilliant man and comic. My problems is with Amazon. They advertised this title along with Billy Connolly Live - 2002 as a package and a great deal. What they should have told me is, its the same material on both DVDs! Its a shame when i spend so much money at Amazon, that i can not contact anyone there to tell them. After laughing so much, this misinformation has left a bitter taste.
the great Billy Connoly September 7, 2003 Mike Cawood 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This double DVD is superb, combining Billy driving and sometimes riding his motor trike over Britain and Ireland interspersed with extracts from his stage shows. Also featured is superb music by Ralph McTell and others. This is BRILLIANT, buy it!
Finally a home tour of Britain! September 18, 2002 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
An excellent DVD box-set that mixes clips of the Big Yins legendary stand up peformances from his recent tour in 2001 with clips of him visiting famous landmarks and places around Britain. In the same format as his previous releases, The World Tour of Australia and The World Tour of Scotland, if you dont laugh at this there's something wrong with you. It's well worth the money - buy it!
