Best Christmas episode ever September 25, 2003 A. Broadhead 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Along with the other reviewers of this video, I have to agree and say that this is far and away the best episode of OF&H ever. It followed the best of all the series, and was the first time we dropped in on Rodney and Cassandra's married life in their new flat. The episode starts with Del-boy and Uncle Albert selling dodgy car stereos (more of which later) in the market, when they bump into Cassandra and Marlene. This is when we first find out about the Jolly Boy's Outing, an annual men-only trip to Margate for the Nag's Head regulars, organised by Del-boy. We travel to Margate via Rodney's workplace, Rodney's new flat, and a coach trip with a diseased Denzil. At the end of the day, as they are all getting ready to go home, the stereo fitted in the coach by Del catches fire, and the coach blows up. Bank holiday time-tables and rail strikes prevent alternative means of getting home, so it is a mad-dash by everyone to find a bed-and-breakfast or a hotel to spend the night in. The Trotters end up in what seems like a haunted hotel, so Del and Rodney go to a nightclub. As the club singer makes way for the magic act, Del recognises the magician's assistant as Raquel, his girlfriend from the previous Christmas episode, and they end up spending the night in Raquel's flat. The following morning, Rodney finds Steven, Cassandra's slimy boss, in his flat, and promptly breaks his nose. I've missed a lot of the story out of this review, so as not to spoil it too much. Suffice to say, it is full of great one-liners, classic sit-com situations, has a wonderful storyline, and allows us to catch up on all the regulars from this marvellous series. Trigger, Boycie, Mike, Denzil, Alan and Pamela Parry, Mickey Pearce, Jevon, Sid from the cafe - everybody is in it. It's like putting on a pair of old slippers - all the characters are so recognisable and comfortable that it is great just to sit back and enjoy it.
One of their best! July 2, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A real treat - even for non OF&H fans!. The lads set off on 'The Jolly Boys Outing' - a beano to Margate - where laughs, weeps and trouble are sure to follow! This video sees the re-introduction to the series of Del's 'Date' (earlier xmas special) Raquel. The video also sees Rodney arrested, the boys stranded in Margate for the night (following a nasty incident with their coach), having to stay at 'The Munsters weekend place'. Hilarious. A true classic and easily one of the best OF&H videos (bar maybe 'Heroes & Villians') in the whole series. Highly recommended.
The Best OFAH ever! October 29, 2000 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you only buy one video from the OFAH collection, this is the one to have. This is the best feature length episode available. A classic that no matter how many times you watch it, still makes you laugh. Essential - Lovely Jubbly!
Watch it and weep ... with laughter! July 10, 2000 If you're a Fools and Horses fan then this is a must. It has to be one of the best feature length episodes. I taped it when it was first shown on television but the tape has worn out so I'm buying a new copy. Despite the family watching it several times and knowing most of the dialogue it's still funny. Appeals equally to all age groups.
The Best of them all November 30, 2001 This is the best episode of OFAH ever written. It was during this period that OFAH was at its peak as it followed the series in which Rodney married Cassandra. It is hard to tell what it is about this episode but it is just very enjoyable and there isn't one dull moment in it. Hopefully the new episodes in Christmas 2001 will eclipse The Jolly Boys Outing.
