steel dawn July 15, 2003 MR D JAKES (Leeds, West Yorkshire United Kingdom) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you liked Mad Max,you'll like this one.Set after a great war the world is in ruin. Patrick Swayze stars as a lone swordman, who was once a general in the war. After seeing his old friend and mentor killed by swayze's rival, he seeks revenge. This takes him across the land, with its many perils and obstacles to his final goal. So if you are a fan of swords and fantasy films, you will love it ! with its many fight scenes and a geat end sword seqence,it is a must for all fantasy film fans alike.
An underrated Swayze. February 18, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Lovers of Roadhouse and Next of Kin know that Patrick has tried his hand at a bit of Kung Fu action from time to time, but few seem to be aware of this film. It's not the only post-apocalypse martial arts film (think of Van Damme's Cyborg or the Asian cult classic Fist of the North Star) but it still remains a rare foray into a genre which demands more attention. A combination of Mad Max 2 and Highlander, it has a stock plot of the master swordsman moving towards a showdown with his evil nemesis; the martial arts are surprisingly good: in particular, Swayze does some nifty work with a staff. The plot is lifted by some Planet of the Apes style shots of ancient ships half-buried in desert wastelands.
