ON DEADLY GROUND - My Review February 11, 2006 C. Shepka (UK, Scotland, Bellshill) 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
I DON'T KNOW WHY EVERYONE KEEPS SLAGGING THIS FILM OFF.THE ACTION IS INCREDIBLE, IT IS OBVIOUSLY VERY BIG BUDGET AND THE MICHAEL CAINE DOES WELL AS THE OBSESSED VILLAIN. THE STORY IS ORIGINAL, SO ARE THE CHARACTERS AND IT'S NOT OFTEN WE GET TO SEE STEVEN ON HORSEBACK OR WITH A MACHINE GUN. THE FILM IS VERY FORMULAIC OVERALL, IT'S STARTS WITH A BANG, ENDS WITH A BANG AND HAS THE USUAL VIOLENCE YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM A SEAGAL MOVIE IN THE MIDDLE. DON'T LISTEN TO WHAT EVERYONE ELSE SAYS, GET THE MOVIE ON DVD AND SEE FOR YOURSELF. IF YOU IGNORE ALL OF THE SPIRITUAL CRAP AND SIT BACK AND RELAX YOU WILL BE THRILLED TO BITS WITH THE EXPLOSIONS, FIGHTS, SHOOT-OUTS AND INSANE DIALOGUE. THANK YOU FOR READING MY REVIEW.
As always a good perfomance from Steven September 26, 2001 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
It just doesn't quite meet up to the high standards of his other top titles. Although, as usual an action packed thriller, with an interesting plot and not a bad film. Just don't watch it more than twice.
A BRILLIANT ACTION FILM WITH A CONSERVATION MESSAGE. August 31, 2006 NEO (orpington kent) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This movies has to be one of Steven Seagal's best which has everything from guest star movie legend Michael Caine to huge stunts. Seagal who directed this movie has really excelled himself from the opening oil well capping. To the huge bar fight which is my favourite scene, where a brain dead hooiligan.Gets his just deserts from a very angry Forrest Taft aka Seagal. For beating up a native red Indian man for just being a native indian. Later Taft is rummbled by evil Aegis oil boss Caine and is almost killed in a second staged well fire. He is saved by a Red Indian community and he then decides to take his revenge on the the oil firm. This is fast paced and really deals with the enviroment and the greed of the oil firms across the globe. Its a real pity that most later Seagal movies have been quite poor and not lived up to this one.

hi, this is a brilliant seagal movie. one of his best for several reasons. 1. i don't think his voice is dubbed. 2. an interseting storyline not to hard to follow. 3. high budget, lots of gunplay, fight scenes and explosions. if you're a seagal fan i can't recommend this highly enough. this is a brill seagal film. thanks.
Incredibly bad but sporadically incredibly funny December 12, 2007 Trevor Willsmer (London, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When people said On Deadly Ground ended with Steven Seagal giving a lecture about the environment, I thought they were talking metaphorically: I didn't realise that he actually got up on a podium and gave a slide presentation. The kind of film that gives ecology a bad name, Seagal's directorial debut may have had a similar premise to the aborted Rambo 4 that was planned around the same time (lone hero takes on oil company despoiling the wilderness, in this case in Alaska) but is inept on a scale previously undreamt of, with heavy-handed mysticism and speachifying rubbing shoulders with staggeringly badly staged action scenes that bored even the whispering ones fans. Weirdest sight: Michael Caine's villain, not just content with polluting the environment even pollutes his comically dyed hair with oil and his over-made-up face with the most hideous display of the embalmer's art this side of the Bride of Wildenstein. Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. And then some. But at least Basil Poledouris' score is pretty good.
