A fantastic family 'all for one and one for all' film! March 24, 2002 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
Fntastic remake of the old classic by Alexandre Dumas! It's fun and exciting and has many brilliant actors playing the lead roles. Kiefer Sutherland is a gorgeous as ever as the mysterious Athos, Charlie Sheen fantastically plays the religious Aramis, Oliver Platt brilliantly plays the funny, stupid Pathos and Cris O'Donnell is great at playing the innocent heroic D'Artagnan! Tim Curry and Rebecca DeMornay also star. It is a film to watch on a sunday afternoon with all the family. It's the three Musketeers as you have never seen them before in this action-packed smash hit! So get yous skates on and start ordering or YOU will be the one who is missing out on such a fab film! Lots of love from Anneka Sidderley age 14. p.s: Did i mention that Kiefer Sutherland looks absolutely gorgeous in this film!
Does exactly what it says on the tin August 19, 2002 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
This film is the most entertaining version of the Dumas tale that I have seen, but it does not fare well in comparison to the original book. Events have been changed so much and presented in a much more lighthearted manner that the two are best viewed in isolation, otherwise you would be constantly saying 'that isn't how it happened' all the way through. I absoloutely love this as a standalone movie: the cast is great, the lines are witty and it is an hour and a half of escapism. Refreshingly for an American film, the setting is authentic for a movie set in Europe (parts of it were shot in Cornwall). If you're in the mood for swashbuckling with a modern twist, get this movie right now, stick on the microwave popcorn and leave your inner film critic at the door.
swashbuckling!!!!! September 27, 2001 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is by far the most fun and exiting version of Dumas's classic. O'Donell does well as the head strong D'Artangan, With great support from Sheen, Platt, Curry and particularly Kiefer Sutherland who shines as the brooding Arthos. The king of France is woefully miscast and the film was a little light hearted for my likeing. But overall still well worth watching.
Swords, Stars and Style April 21, 2001 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I really love this movie. I've never read the book, but I have seen about a billion different versions of it on film, and this is one of the most fun. It has absolutely my favourite cast. Its funny, the bad guy is fabulously over the top, the good guys are gorgeous, the ladies are lovely, and the sword fights are most excellent. I love the sword, and I pay a lot of attention to fights. This film is full of nice sword work. If you want a fun film with lots of swordplay and plenty of style, this is one to watch.
What a waste July 7, 2000 dean@dtaylor12.fsnet.co.uk (England) 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
What a shame, such a promising novel reduced to nought in such a feeble translation of the original story. However, this video is action packed and exciting although it does not display the depth & forethought that Dumas' original novel had. An excellent yarn for those who wish for 16th century action; those who know the original should avoid it if they wish for a duplication in video format.
