Doctor Who: The Master's Laser Screwdriver.October 1, 2007 Ms. Sheila K. Newcombe(brechin, scotland) 21 out of 24 found this review helpful
I got this Laser Screwdriver yesterday.... i have already destroyed things in my house.... the Dr Who DVDS arn't ever going to get Zapped!!! also aged two of my three cats by miilllions of yewars etc.
[ if you are slightly worried you can auctuallly do these things.... you can't... but what the hey! i'm a kid!!!]
okay... Fun: *****
it's brilliant... it's spring loaded so it expands nice and quickly... [unlike the sonic screwdriver] it's an amazing copy of the one used in the TV series... it has two settings:"Laser" ,which can kill and destroy stuff, and "Age" which explains itself...[it ages people and aliens etc.] okay so i don't use the age setting as much as the laser setting. it's a rubbish noise for the agge setting[only slightly like the one on TV.
Educational value: ***
what can i say... the instruction manuals sort of educational and you sort of understand the TV program better [by about a millietre more!] so auctually...
Educational Value: *
how durable: ****
okay so i havn't dropped it from the top of the stairs but dn't thuink many people would do that... it stays in one piece more... [there's only two peices] and the button dosn't come off when yu're playing with it.[ SONIC SCREWDRIVER] so it's quite good.
Overall:
it's a brilliiant toy that i can't wait to show my friends and family!!!
Breaks when you breathe on it!January 1, 2008 Joyce Rowe(North Yorkshire) 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
I admit my sons have had fun with these; but only until one broke, less than six hours into Christmas day. Amazon were fantastic in response, sending out a replacement next working day (over Christmas!) :) but sadly this also broke, within 20 mins of opening. Painful scenes with 8 year old in tears :( Have now received notification from Amazon that we are not the only ones with a problem & are going for a refund (still have devastated 8 year old - he was so careful with the second one, yet still it broke) I don't recommend this - the sonic is much more durable, plus has UV light AND a pen/invisible writer!
Who'd have sonic?October 21, 2007 G. Rutland(London, UK) 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
Well that's not entirely fair. The sonic screwdriver is a fantastic toy, but the laser screwdriver is just cool. It's spring loaded, so pops up at the touch of a button. A quick button press causes the screwdriver to make the laser sound effect, whereas a 2-second hold triggers the ageing sound. The bottom also rotates, but with no noticeable effect on the way the screwdriver works.
Criticisms would be that the spring loaded mechanism isn't perfect. If you want the screwdriver to pop out and make the ageing sound first you've got to time the press well, else you end up trapping the tip halfway. The ageing sound is also much quieter than the laser sound and time based - I would have liked it to last as long as you held the button down.
Obviously the screwdriver doesn't have the UV or pen functions of either the sonic screwdriver or the Judoon scanner, but then it's hard to see how they could have built either of these things in in a believable manner.
These however are very minor criticisms of an excellent toy - just one that's hard to find. If you're in Central London, the London Stamp and Collectible Centre on the Strand has them in stock.
Absolute Rubbish!January 24, 2008 R. Bainbridge(Cheshire UK) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this screwdriver for my little boy's 7th birthday. He played with it for 20 minutes before it stopped working altogether. No sound, no light. It was then impossible to access the batteries and the trigger stopped working. This is absolute rubbish and I was the one who had to deal with my little boy sobbing on his birthday. It is not fit for purpose and I totally agree with the reviews made by Joyce Rowe and I holden. My other little boy owns the sonic screwdriver and has had it for months without any problems. I think the master laser screwdriver should be withdrawn until they sort out the problems with it.
Why have laser when you can have sonic?November 28, 2007 C. Traynor 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Got to say I have now got both screwdrivers and beyond a shaddow of a doubt the sonic one is better. Its more durable than the laser and a lot less annoying.
