5 out of 5 stars Excellent product for a giveaway price!   July 19, 2007

I was a touch sceptical about mains filtering, sure I've got the exceptional interconnects, the energy absorption hi-fi stands, the spikes, the sorbothane and granite and they all work superbly in tightening the sound. But the mains? Fairly constant and surely it can't affect the sound right?

    Wrong.

I popped this in front of my system (Musical Fidelity A3.5 & Tri-Vista DAC 21, Audiolab 8000Q & 2 8000P's, Martin Logan Aeon-i electrostats and MJ Acoustics PRO100 sub all hooked up with Krystal Avenger interconnects and QED X-Tube400 speaker cable) and the result was delightful.

For the ludicrously low price this has to be worth having. Whether you are an audiophile like me or just have a decent hi-fi, for the money this is a superb purchase. The effect on the sound was an overall tightening of the image, vocals became crisper and very realistic and the detail was brought out even further than it had been.

I'm now considering spending a lot more on a mains filter if this is the result of spending 40. Superb.

5 out of 5 stars Broadband application   September 16, 2007

To cut a long story short, I had a problem with my broadband connection where switching on an aging PC would kill the broadband connection to my ADSL wireless modem(DSL light would flash). My theory was that mains borne interference from the PC was coupling from the domestic mains wiring into the domestic telephone wiring as both sets of wiring were probably bunched together when installed. Including this RFI filter between the PC and the mains socket effectively stopped the interference from getting into the house wiring and my broadband connection was restored. A filter works in either direction, so hats off to Tacima for a quick solution.

An unexceptional looking device that initially has a subtle effect but you soon notice how much background noise has disappeared. This device just lets your TV or hifi work to its true potential. The picture on my TV improved and the hifi had greater clarity. I liked it so much I bought a second one as I got fed up transfering the first one between the hifi and home-cinema.

I run a shortwave and VHF/UHF listening post and was pleasantly surprised at the reduction of noise levels once I installed this unit!

    2 out of 5 stars Disappointing   June 14, 2008

I bought this 6-way mains filter on the basis of the what hifi recommendation and the customer reviews on Amazon. However after testing it with a denon cd player, Onkyo mini system and my tv/dvd player I found no significant improvements in sound or picture quality.

The item appears to be solid in construction and does function perfectly well as a normal 6-way extension should. However I find it's fairly unattractive to look at with some components on display through a small plastic window- I assume the manufacturer did this to demonstrate that it is more that your average extension lead.

My advice would be to buy a cheaper, quality 6-way with surge protection if you need one and give this a miss.

If you're still unconvinced do a search on the internet as there are articles dismissing the claimed benefits of mains filters. I wish I had of done, then I could have saved myself a few quid- still you live and learn.
