This toy sucks! September 8, 2007 N. G. Murgatroyd 106 out of 110 found this review helpful
We were so excited about getting this toy, but we have been very disappointed. It has dreadfully poor voice recognition technology and so 9.5 times out of 10 it will not recognise the commands. Once locked it has no override mechanism and so for the large majority of the time stays a locked, inpenetrable, unusable hunk of plastic. If you are looking to have the words "Oops , please begin again" "intruder - nee-naw-nee-naw-nee naw!" echoing through your house all day, go for it! This is certain to contribute to new out-breaks of "toy rage". Utter rubbish! Avoid at all costs.
UTTER, UTTER RUBBISH June 25, 2007 J. Saunders (UK) 96 out of 102 found this review helpful
My Daughter has just purchase one of these having spend many weeks saving for it. My Wife was unable to set the time or date as it simply would not recognise what she was saying - this was not helped by her eventually shouting at it. To prove her wrong I decided to have a go. An hour later I had had no success. Whilst determined not to let a child's toy induce stress in me, I could not help experiencing a compelling urge to smash it to pieces. Despite my cool exterior my Daughter was unsuprisingly devasted by the whole experience. I have just searched for forums on Google and have found much of the same comments. Save your children the anguish and leave well alone!!
very disappointing September 24, 2007 Eva (UK) 78 out of 81 found this review helpful
This was bought for my daughters 8th birthday, at her request (having seen the advert.) The voice recognition just does not work - at all. It is currently collecting dust in her little brothers room. I would advise anyone thinking of buying one, not to.
Annoying toy October 8, 2007 A.E.H (Cambridge, UK) 33 out of 35 found this review helpful
This has to be the most annoying toy we have paid 20.00 for yet! The voice recognition is extremely dodgy and only works 20% of the time, so getting it open, or setting up changes to date time or password nearly drive you demented in the process. Inside, all there is is one pad of paper, a UV pen and small UV light to read secret written messages. I dont know why but I expected something more high tech or at least a sort of diary / journal! (You can't really see from manufacturer's photos etc what is inside.) So basically your child can write some messaages on the blank paper and keep it locked away from prying eyes. ( Well supposedly except our other daughter is able to open it with her very different voice too!!) Despite all that, the daughter who received it as a gift does not want to return it!!!
Voice recognition is fine November 13, 2007 .Ray (UK) 24 out of 25 found this review helpful
Just bought this for my 6 year old, and found the voice recognition to be working fine. It normally recognises the password on either the 1st or 2nd attempt. You have to remember this is just a toy so you have it help it to recognise you. I even managed to get in by upping the tone of my man voice and saying the password like how my daughter said it. Just remember the toy doesn't actually understand what you're saying for password, so you'll have to repeat the word in the same way as it was recorded - 'ellooo isn't the same as Hello You actually change passwords, time, and date using voice commands, and here, the toy do understand what you're saying to an extent. So, to change the time, you would say "change time", then follow the voice instructions to set the time! Now if only my mobile phone can do that. The less impressive thing about this toy is the build quality. Within the first hour, one of the top flap came off its hinge twice, so be gentle with it. I give this 4 stars because I actually find the voice recognition quite impressive for a plastic toy, for its novelty factor if you like. It's probably less secure as a journal than a paper book in a locked drawer, because it can easily be reset by pressing a button inside the battery compartment.
