Decent double pinnion hand drill January 5, 2005 R. J. Maher (Nottingham, UK) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Accurately manufactured chuck which doesn't wobble, and good value for the price, and cheaper than comparable competition. Handy space in the handle for keeping a few drill bits. Much better than any single pinion hand drill.I'm happy with mine.
Poor hand drill April 13, 2008 Alexander I. C. Hill (London, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm writing this review in response to the other posted review as I disagree with the view expressed in it. On the strength of that review I purchased the drill but found that it is basically flawed as it is too light. This may be an advantage in terms of carrying it around but a hand drill needs some weight and solidity to provide balance and extra force when drilling. By comparison with a much older and heavier cast-iron drill I have been using it is pretty ineffective. I would recommend one of the similar Stanley hand drills which are only a little more expensive.
Useless design. September 16, 2007 Autlan (U.K.) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this hand drill to accompany my carpenter's brace -- which won't bite down on drill bits smaller than 5mm -- and was more than a little disappointed. I don't really like these types of hand drill to begin with; after using this one, I doubt I'll pick up another. I was careful enough to oil the teeth and took care not to put too much strain on the mechanism the two times I used it. More care than its poor construction was worth. The wheel sticks at several points. Though it IS of dual pinion construction, there aren't any screws to tighten the wheel against the plastic casing and so it wobbles enough to provide very unsmooth action. If you're going to buy this sort of drill, avoid this one. I'm kicking myself now for not shelling out a bit more for a Stanley.
