Good but not brilliant June 19, 2005 56 out of 59 found this review helpful
I found this mower to be quite heavy and it seems to leave quite a lot of grass behind (as the grass collector is at the back you can only collect grass whilst going forward). It would be ideal for a flat lawn, although when it comes across a bump it requires quite a bit of effort to push it over. Compared to my old mower, which had wheels, it is much more difficult to use. It is very heavy even before it has collected any grass and the grass capacity is disappointingly small. One trick I have found is it lift the rear of the mower up slightly to allow the rollers to work at their best. Maybe I am doing it wrong but even compared to a petrol mower this is heavy.
3 mowers in 3 years June 29, 2006 silverback (Northern Ireland) 29 out of 29 found this review helpful
Allthough the mower worked well and collected the grass ok, I only was able to use it once. after the second time the impeller was ruined and sheer pins snapped causing the unit in-oprable so much so it had to be renewed under warrenty. the same happened to the second and third mowers.. Allways the same fault with the impeller. Since the initial warrenty has run out and it wasnt continued on to the new replacements I now have to pay for the parts myself or get a new mower. It will not be one of these again.
Flymo - Don't do it!! June 3, 2007 C. Mackie (London) 27 out of 27 found this review helpful
I would not normally take the time to write a review such as this - HOWEVER - this mower was so fundamentally flawed that I have offloaded it on EBAY and bought one with wheels (not a flymo). We only have a small lawn on a V slight gradient, and this mower did more harm then good. Even going over areas several times, much of the grass was simply "bent over" rather then actually cut. I used it twice and the results were simply terrible. My two main issues are a) it doesnt mow properly b) it doesnt collect the grass leaving large clumps behind. Pretty fundamental aspects of a "mow and vac" style mower. Even going over the lawn several times leaves behind large clumps of grass, with some grass just crushed rather then cut. Bluntly - It simply does not work very well. Additionally, as soon as it has much grass (1/2 full) it stops hovering. It should be called a "drag" mower rather then "hover". Save your money. I flogged mine on EBAY and bought a Bosch Rotak for under 100 which is 10000% better. It is light, easy to use and leaves the lawn looking perfect. Bottom line - avoid flymo's like the plague.....
Good for a well-priced Hover Mower April 18, 2006 Colin Snowball (Quedgeley, Gloucestershire) 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
Tricky to put together considering how little there is to do but once that's done it is as good as any other hover mower that I've used. Compacts the grass so that you don't have to empty the box too often and has a clever wind up reel to pack the wire lead away nice and neatly. Good price too!

I bought one of these 10 years ago and it has just died after giving me no trouble at all. I am now buying another one!
