Bahco bypass the competition yet again November 13, 2007

Bahco can do no wrong when it comes to making professional quality garden shears and secateurs. I write as a gardener who has used Bahco secateurs for some time. I've also used many, many pairs made by the firm's competitors. All of these rival cutters are now missing bits, (especially the spring), are blunt, and/or are loose so that they mangle and maim rather than shear cleanly.
It's only in comparison to the lesser brands that the Bahcos stand out. The spring which returns the handles to the open position is of the old fashioned, coiled-wire variety, as opposed to the strange rolled metal strip that seems to be the standard for a lot of other firms and which inevitably falls out and gets lost. The clip that holds the handles shut is a very basic fold-around clasp that ties one arm to the other. It's not as user-friendly as the safety mechanism on other cutters, but it works, and again, it doesn't fall off.
The build quality and reliabilty of the Bahcos is streets ahead of the nearest rivals. These boys keep trucking forever.
