How does it work??? May 10, 2008 D. Davies (England) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I've always wanted a chin-up bar but never liked the idea of drilling/screwing into the door frame. Stumbled across this Everlast bar last weekend whilst browsing Amazon. It sounded too good to be true, a bar which requires no permanent fixings and can be removed with ease. You can't really tell from Amazon's photos how it works so I bit the bullet and ordered one. It takes a little bit of effort to assemble the bar but as long as you have a couple of spanners you'll be fine. Before long the bar was assembled and ready for the first test. To install the bar, you slip the wooden bar on one side of the upper door frame and it rests on the top of the frame, against the wall. The two smallest foam pads (see photo above) on the main horizontal metal bar make contact with the vertical door frames on the opposite side of the door/wall to the wooden bar. That's it. Nothing else. To remove, just lift slightly and rotate the wooden bar through the doorway. The chin-up bar doesn't appear to put any downward force onto the top horizontal of the door frame during use and the foam pads protect the frame from damage. The wooden bar appears to keep the chin-up bar in place when you're not hanging from it. After a few days use, there's still no real damage to the wall or door frame. The wooden bar does have a black strip which resembles sandpaper - this must act as friction to hold the device in place. This has left a small amount of marking on the wall but it's not serious. All in all, it's a good product and it also doubles as a push-up aid and a handy place to hang clothes!
Very good piece of kit.... May 29, 2008 SYLAX (Hampshire, England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was a little worried when I ordered this as I've seen mixed reviews over the web. Some people say that it is very difficult to put together and the loop handles remained loose. I thought it was very easy to put together but you do need a spanner and a socket set. It is also important to tighten the screws to the max to ensure the loop handles do not remain loose. I put mine together in 15 minutes and it is a very secure and stable, it can comfortably support my weight (220lbs/15st 10lb). It takes literally 2 seconds to put it up in your door and it comes down just as fast. You can do narrow grip chin ups and the loop handles allow you to do wider grip chin ups to work more of your lats. I am very pleased with this purchase and have no problem recommended it.
impossible to set up; wrong types of nuts June 22, 2008 Ilovebooks 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Based on the review I read on amazon.co.uk a month ago, I ordered the product. Unfortunately, some of the nuts were wrong types, making it impossible to set it up. As I was very enthusiastic about this product, I tried to find replacement nuts from local hardware shops. It seems that the nuts provided by Everlast are different from British nuts. Whatever I found did not match the screw. I even tried to contact Everlast USA but their customer service phone-line went dead whenever I was put through by the person at the switchboard. I had to send it back to amazon. I do not recommend this product.
