A good basic exercise bike August 17, 2007 Mr. M. Robertson (Scotland) 180 out of 180 found this review helpful
Ok, first things first. The bike was reasonably easy to build and took only about 20-30 minutes to put together. From reading the instructions there appeared to be far more parts required than were packed, but if you study the drawings rather than pay attention to the text, it's fairly easy to work out. The bike is rather utilitarian in appearance, made of metal tubing and painted a silver/grey colour. You can see blobs of solder where it's been welded together. It's no beauty but is perfectly acceptable, especially for the price. I find the retail price of 290 absolutely absurd. Make no mistake, this is a cheap, basic bike that is correctly priced at 60. You are not saving any money buying this bike at 60. The seat is large and padded and I found it fairly comfortable. If you're very tall or short you might not be able to sit comfortably. There are 8 levels of resistance, which you can change by turning a knob on the front of the bike. Level 1 is like free wheeling down a hill. Hardly any effort is required at all. Level 8 is moderately difficult - you'll need to put effort in but it's not like some bikes where the top setting is like cycling through treacle. If you're already fit then you will probably find that there is not enough resistance to truly challenge you. If you're an average couch potato then it'll take you a while before you conquer the bike. The computer measures time, distance, pace, and calories. The display either cycles through all of these modes or you can view only one. I am sure the calorie measure is vastly over generous as it doesn't take account of height, weight, or heart rate. There are no built in programmes to test yourself against. And how about the foldability? This was the main reason I bought this bike as my house is small and I have extremely limited storage space. The folding is certainly a space saving feature but doesn't save as much space as you probably hope it will. But, it folds and can sit in a corner without dominating the room. The smalls wheels on the front means you'll be able to roll it around without much effort when you need to move it. All in all, if you're thinking that you might like to buy an exercise bike, but aren't sure if you'll like it or will be able to stick to it long-term, this is a good bike to buy. It's cheap and basic, the ride is smooth and quiet (although the noise gets a bit louder at higher resistance levels), and there's really nothing wrong with it at a basic level. If you're already fit and looking for a bike that will challenge you long-term, I wouldn't recommend this bike as the resistance is probably not high enough.
A good beginner's exercise bike August 27, 2007 R. J. Harris (England, UK) 111 out of 112 found this review helpful
This bike makes an excellent introduction into the world of casual exercise, especially if you're afraid to jog in public without looking like a plonker. Installation is fairly simple, and the bike is fairly small and almost silent at lower resistance levels. This means it'll happily fit in the corner of your room, ready to be pulled out and given a spin in seconds. Considering the price of other bikes this one has performed wonderfully for the money - I've been using it for several months, around 3-6 days a week. As I'm a beginner, I have no need for fancy heart rate monitoring or chocolate syrup resistance values, so this bike has been more than satisfactory. Regardless, the 60 value does eventually betray itself: one of the foot straps snapped off after a few weeks of use, even barefoot; and the speed meter is hilariously inaccurate, jerking from 21 to 25 to 32 in a couple of minutes, but never reading anywhere in between. Ultimately if you're looking to exercise, weigh a reasonable amount (the bike has a max weight of 250b or so) and don't want to spend too much money (or don't know if you'll stick with it!), this and a set of cheap dumbbells will have you set for a while. Recommended but expect to upgrade within a year or two.
Good basic bike April 26, 2008 Joan Cecil (Gloucestershire UK) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is a good, sturdy exercise bike for someone who doesn't need extras. Easy to assemble - it took about 20 minutes. Comfortable and easy to adjust. For someone looking for a simple bike this would fit the bill. The price is just about right at 59.99, I wouldn't pay the displayed previous price of 99.99.
Not for the long legged! August 10, 2008 Shane Crawford 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Not a bad exercise bike but the seat doesn't go up very far so if you have long legs don't even bother with this bike. I'm 5'4" (163cm) and my legs easily reach the peddles with the seat at the maximum height. it is quiet, but as another reviewer has already mentioned, it's still quite bulky when it's folded up. it's not bad though for the price and I don't think there's very many smaller exercise bikes out there.
simple&effective July 24, 2008 H. Morrison (Scotland) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
A sturdy and simple machine, very suitable for beginners and silver surfers like me.Easy to assemble and operate.Welding a bit crude but in no way affects the working of the cycle.Altogether an excellent purchase at this price
