70 for a bug ridden unsupported piece of junk October 19, 2007 M. Woods (Wales) 76 out of 78 found this review helpful
This was delivered today. I loaded it to my pc, everything was ok until I tried to burn my small test project to DVD - it crashed. I tried to export the project to PC, it crashed again. I installed it on my laptop - it crashed. I tried to get onto their support site and got stuck in an endless loop. I surfed the net and found a review that said that adobe had rushed this release even though it still has loads of bugs already been highlighted by beta testers. 70 down the drain! It got one star cos you can't submit a review without a rating.
Bug ridden. November 19, 2007 O. STRONG 35 out of 36 found this review helpful
I tried this programme out on brand new Vista Intel Duo Core machine with much more power than Adobe says this programme requires. The programme is superb.... at least it would be if it wasn't bug ridden. It stalls literally every 5 mins, which involves having to hang around for ages waiting for it to come back to life. And then it crashes literally every 10 minutes if you're lucky and sometimes every 2 minutes. This product is naff - and since buying it reviews I've read online also mention it's instability. (Next time I'll read the review beforehand) Adobe shouldn't have released it without debugging it properly. Such a shame as it has fantastic features if only it worked. Buyer beware. This could be the most frustrating programme you'll ever purchase. It has been for me
ELEMENTS 4 January 24, 2008 G. Wade (England) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I read with interest the previous two reviews of this product and was quite surprised. I have nothing but praise for it, it has never crashed and it has done everything I have asked of it, apart from auto scene detect HDV footage. I made a short 20 minute DV film with Elements 4 including transitions and some video effects, I burnt it to DVD without any problems and the quality was as good as Premiere 6.0 and a Pinnacle DV500. I have made a very short film and uploaded it to youtube without any problems. I have even made a short sample film of HDV footage and burnt this to an ordinary DVD and the quality was very impressive. I am using a Gigabyte mobo with an Intel chipset, 3.0Ghz P4 CPU, XP home and 2.0 gb of RAM, in my experience of video editing it is essential to get the mobo right especially the chipset, hope this helps anyone who is thinking of buying this software.
Great package and try-before-buy available February 21, 2008 Simon Draper (UK) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
While good to get you going, the photo and video packages often bundled with PCs etc really don't give you anything advanced and easy to use (I mean the budget editions that usually cost about 25 to buy separately). So after deciding that I no way need the mega-functionality of professional packages (even if I could afford splashing out several hundred pounds!) I looked into reviews from a number of different sources on a couple of mid-range packages but the only way to really know is to try one out first before buying. Adobe have a try-before-buy scheme for stuff like this on their website (the Pro versions and the Elements versions of PhotoShop and Premier are available) although the file downloads are naturally very big. It was after trying these that made me buy the Premier Elements 4.0 and Photoshop 6.0 bundle. I spent pretty much a whole weekend with the trial version (which is fully featured with a 30day timeout) editing holiday photos and video clips trying out various features - they're really quite intuitive to use and (so far) I haven't had any of the crashes that others have experienced so for me it gets a thumbs up. Surprisingly, ordering from Amazon was a couple of pounds cheaper than buying the unlock codes direct from Adobe and also gets you the installation DVD and manuals. Note though that you have to uninstall the downloaded time-limited version and then reinstall from the disk as the licence codes with the disk won't unlock the downloaded time-limited version.
POWERFUL PC, TECH` SUPPORT-(many hours/days),..--P` ELEMENTS 4 A DISASTER!! April 12, 2008 Mr. G. Scott (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My view, as the title intimates, Premiere Elements 4 DOES NOT DO WHAT IT SAYS `ON THE BOX`, this product was obviously NOT tested on `real world` pc`s, I have 3 SATA discs, QUAD cpu, Gigabyte 8800GT, 4GB fast memory and have done everything suggested by the friendly Adobe support staff, SOUND OUT OF SYNC, NO CURE, my view is DON`T TOUCH PREMIERE ELEMENTS 4 WITH A BARGEPOLE (unless you want grey hairs),it simply cannot handle High Definition material,... DON`T JUST TAKE MY WORD FOR IT,CHECK OTHER SITES,..there are very few praises for this product. Adobe Photoshop is a great product, ADOBE PREMIERE ELEMENTS 4 IS A DISASTER AND COMPLETELY UNUSEABLE FOR HIGH DEFINITION, believe me, I have tried it extensively!!
