Excellent January 19, 2007 Humphrey (Isle of Man) 49 out of 51 found this review helpful
I was a little apprehensive about buying this as there were mixed reviews. However, I found it very easy to install - just remember to install the software before plugging in the adapter - and easy to use (but see below). Without reading the manual (if there is one!), I was soon editting and copying all my old camcorder footage to DVD. The supplied software is supposed to be the limited version, but it breaks down a long section of video into separate sections, allows you to edit it and add a menu and various fade-ins: which is all you need for this type of work. You can select output to hard drive/ DVD etc in various formats (even PSP), combine different tapes, and leave it to get on with the job. No failures so far! I do have a powerful PC (AMD dual core based) with plenty of memory (2 Gig), so perhaps others won't find it works quite so smoothly. The only thing I would STRONGLY recommend is that before attampting to use the software you right-click "My Computer" (in Windows XP), then from "Properties" select the "Advanced" tab and under Performance "Settings" set "Adjust for best performance" (you can change it back easily). This doesn't do any harm (although it changes the look of windows somewhat). But otherwise you may get severe delays and lockups when the software is processing video.
Disappointing October 12, 2006 Silvalude 38 out of 44 found this review helpful
Lacks time base correction, so all your old VHS tapes jitter if captured as Mpeg 1/2, most of the software features need to be activated (and payed for!)
Not OK for VISTA June 26, 2007 Max1198 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
This product is very good if you do not run Windows Vista. The Studio software is excellent, very easy to use and works on Vista with a Beta patch, but the Instant DVD Recorder portion of this package simply does not work. I'm sure it will once Pinnacle get their patches for Vista sorted out so if you don't want the functionality of burning directly to DVD everything will be ok. The Pinnacle support is responsive but very frustrating. I was told to install a BETA patch, then when this did not work was informed it would not be supported. Then told to install Studio 11 as this was Vista compatible, but they wanted $49.99 to upgrade the product and still wouldn't specifically say if it would work or not. All in all very disapointing as the Pinnacle website clearly states this product is Vista compatible.
Below the standards of previous hardwares June 8, 2007 Mr. J. Chopra (UK) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I recently purchased the Dazzle Video Creator because my Pinnacle Moviebox had died... That previous hardware was awesome. The codexes used by the software and the compression of the hardware combined to create mpeg file types that could be used on other softwares such as NERO or Adobe Premier that are far ahead in the software stakes... The Studio software with that hardware was fairly basic so this was a massively important highlight for the adaptor. You can pay for additional options but as a professional I use Adobe Premier and Nero as they are far better than Pinnacle.. Since that hardware though Pinnacle and Adobe fell out of sorts and so a decision was made to create hardware that is intentionally near impossible to use on any other software other than that created by Pinnacle. To add to this, the quality is not as good as previous hardwares they produced. Sharpness is off and a slight fuzziness covers the lack of pixels... To create a dvd now takes hours longer than it had previously and the support from the company is classically bad. For a professional user I would strongely suggest against purchasing this product and instead searching out older hardwares. Anything that is made for the software above STUDIO 9 has this problem.. It is NOT going to be fixed as stated by Pinnacle. Unfortunately for laptops this is the only choice you have... If you have a desktop, however, you could search out an internal adaptor instead from other companies as there is more choice..
Not all its made out to be June 26, 2007 crop n chop (Selsey) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
Final image qulity is very poor. Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I cant seem to find any info in the supplied litrature. Using it on XP at the moment, but after reading other reviews am reluctant to install on my vista machine. The software provided is only a partial package and requires aditional payments to "unlock" all the features.
