Good but beware December 12, 2007 KTP 36 out of 37 found this review helpful
We obtained a copy shortly after it was released to the market following an Amazon mailshot. We were very happy with the install and its apparent simplicity, however, following a system issue that required a complete re-install of Windows XP (and therefore lose of all data) we have learnt that all is not well with True Image. While the data files backed up successfully the Outlook emails, address book and Calendar did not. Even though we had verified the data there appears to be a development issue with the back up of Outlook. The data is on the DVD's, but will not re-install successfully. We have been working with Acronis now since the end of October and while there has been a partial re-install most of the data is still not available (now in December). They are still to produce a 'fix' for our copy of True Image (Build 8027) - I don't know if later versions are also affected, so beware!
Vista Warning January 18, 2008 Peter M. Nurse (UK) 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
True Image 11 is a very good piece of software. It performs perfectly in Windows Xp Pro. However in Vista there are two problems that are not mentioned in the Manufacturer's information; these are: 1) Dynamic disks are not supported; disks of this type will not show in True Image's drive windows. The only way around it is to save the drive's data, delete the volume and then convert to Basic disk. These operations are performed within Windows 'Disk Management'. The Basic disk is then formatted and then reloaded. 2) Vista supports two types of partition table, MBR (the old master boot record) and GUID (or GPT). True Image 11 WILL ONLY SUPPORT MBR so any disk that uses GUID must have its volume(s) deleted and then set up with MBR partition. Acronis inform me that there is no simple workaround. Peter M Nurse
Beware, this software may not work! January 9, 2008 Jeff Woodhams Argenta Ltd 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
I bought version 10 of this software in July last year and for a while it worked as expected. In November it started crashing every time I tried to use it. I contacted the help desk and spent a considerable amount of time providing them with diagnostic information. This included downloading version 11 and trying that but it contained exactly the same error. Despite repeated assurances they have not provided a solution and recently have stopped responding to my e-mails.
TrueImage 11 - utter rubbish January 10, 2008 Richard 18 out of 20 found this review helpful
I attempted to load the software onto my laptop which is running vista. It failed to load, telling me that installation was interupted and I should retry. I have attempted to do so a number of times with the same result. Research on the internet has identified this as a common occurrance and that there appears to be no obvious resolution for it. Acronis have yet to answer my emails asking for a resolution or refund. Customer service appears non existent. I cannot recommend a product that from my experience does not appear to be of merchantable quality.
Acronis True Image 11 does not work properly January 12, 2008 Esporta (Bridgend, Wales) 15 out of 18 found this review helpful
I purchased 2 copies of Acronis True Image Home 11.00 a month ago. This software still does not work properly even after I have spent hours writing to customer support and carrying out their instructions trying to solve the problem. Their support reply assumes MSDOS knowledge (entering commands from the command line in a DOS window) that I have had to revise from years ago. How many modern day computer users have ever heard of the MSDOS command line, let alone know how to type in commands on it. They sent instructions requiring me to use one of their utilities without telling me where to obtain it and then I had to wait 8 days for further replies to get it. I have spent hours trying their utility and applying their instructions that do not work. I was told to get a report by running their utility once more and issuing the command "get report>c:\schedreport.txt" (without quotes) but it DOES NOT WORK. I have told them that DIR>list.txt prints out a directory list to file before running their utility but not after running it (which also leaves me unable to change directory). They replied by saying "get report>c:\schedreport.txt" probably did not work because I left out spaces either side of the redirection operator ">". If they try DIR_ >list.txt (where _ is a space) they will find that the space between the command and the ">" means the ">" will not work, so spaces are not the reason for failure. How can these people be trusted so restore your system when your hard disk fails? I am now completely fed up with this software, which has obviously been put on the market before it has been tested to work properly. I have asked Amazon if I can return it and get a refund and they immediately agreed. I give 10/10 to Amazon and 1/10 to Acronis. I note that other Amazon reviewers are not happy with Norton Ghost either, so where do you get reliable backup software. I will be using "Karen's Replicator" to back up my files in the future and the Windows Backup for the complete system. Both are free.
