Easy Interface - Poor Encoding August 7, 2007 Mr. S. P. Davies 36 out of 38 found this review helpful
To help my review credible here's a brief background to my experience... I always used to use Studio 8, 9 & 10 for normal DV editing and DVD creation, I absolutely loved the easy editing interface and transitions, it was heavily bugged at first but patches eventually sorted that out. Then I started shooting HD Video and Pinnacle 10 was no longer up for the job (slow and jittery plus crashed) so started using the hugely frustrating & complex Premiere Pro 2, makes you appreciate Pinnacles easy editing interface. I always missed Pinnacle even though I was getting great results from Premiere Pro. Then Studio 11 was released and I eventually decided to try it again so bought the Ultimate package... (I should have downloaded the trial version in hindsight) Installation was straight forward if not long winded with all the extras and I was pleased to see the interface had not changed too much, I was also very pleased to see it scaled to fit the window now, off I went and captured and edited my HD video, smiling away at how easy it was, so all was great up to the 'Make Movie' part...... I really have to say the encoding sucks, very limited size options and only single pass encoding which produces simply awful quality compared to Premiere's Media encoder, Interlacing was also a big problem with no option found to 'De-Interlace' the video and the help files had no mention of De-Interlacing at all, so tried the online help, again no results and resigned myself that Pinnacle doesn't De-Interlace. I could be wrong but I've spent a lot of time reading and trying to find info on it with no results. Pros: Great Easy Interface Fast Editing Stable Easy DVD Creation Superb Transitions Cons Encoding is basic and poor quality DivX Options & Help is limited. No Interlacing Options Annoying Support (ignored email) So sadly I have to go back to using Premiere Pro and leave Pinnacle 11 gathering dust as a waste of money :o( I really hoped for more, but it proves 'All that glistens isn't gold' Lets hope Pinnacle 12 will be more encoding concious.
Invalid install key / serial numbers November 6, 2007 F. Carrie 21 out of 22 found this review helpful
Do not even think about buying this piece of junk. Like most others here I got only grief. Grief on several levels. Invalid install key / serial numbers, impenetrable support on the Pinnacle web site. Did eventually get a reply from them in French. I have sent the whole lot back for a refund. Unbelievably frustrating and annoying having to spend most of an evening sorting out problems caused by incompetents at Pinnacle who cannot even supply their products with the correct serial numbers. Yes, you guessed it, I am VERY annoyed
Pinnacle Studio 11 Ultimate August 6, 2007 Mikey1947 (UK) 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
I have been a Studio fan for many years so bought the latest version. For the first time ever I am experiencing crashes. having contacted Pinnacle tech support over the last week several times for a fix, I am no further on and have to accept that this programme is unsuitable for a brand new duo core laptop with XP pro Pinnacle did reply but just sent me the same fix everytime and as it did not work first time it was never going to work Buy this at your peril
Very Frustrating. Buy only if you love sorting technical problems August 11, 2007 R. Harris (UK) 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
I have used Pinnacle Studio (Studio DV, 7, 8, 9) for many years. Its great when it works and totally frustrating when it doesn't. I decided to buy Studio 11 Ultimate to replace Studio 9. I wish I hadn't. The menus only work some of the time and you often end up with a green screen instead of a menu. Be prepared to contact Tech support on a daily basis (they will only reply once a day). Technical support have had me uninstalling the product twice and reinstalling. They will also get you editing the registry, so allow a good 4-6 hours to remove all parts and reinstall. The result will be the same - it still won't work. You might strike lucky and if the moon is in the right place it might work for you. If it doesn't you've wasted a lot of money. Is it worth the risk?
Improvement --- BUT beware July 13, 2007 R. D. T. Griffiths (Woking, Surrey United Kingdom) 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
This does (with the 11.1 patch) seem to be an improvement on 10. However beware that the the Audio soap add in will only work on ONE PC. It has to be registered AND locked in to that PC and if you forget to de-register it - even if the whole thing is uninstalled, it is impossible to use it on another PC - you have lost it. I found this out to my costas I work in the UK and overseas and forgot to de-register it on my UK PC and it is now impossible to use it on my overseas PC. Also as usual Studio includes a lot of effcs & transitions that you have to pay extra for - which if you optred for the lot wold probably cost in total many more times the ost of the oirigional program. Pinnacle 10 Titanium included RT FX2 in the price. Even though this is sold as 'ultimate' the extra transitions & effects in vers 10 Titanium are NOT included. However the chroma key sheet is a nice bonus.
