Great piece of software June 2, 2006 Eike Fradler 77 out of 83 found this review helpful
Just want to share my first impressions on this new piece of software. I used to edit my video with Pinnacle Studio 10 Plus, but I was fed up with all those instability issues. Once I even had a one-hour project crashed and the work of two days was just gone! Now that I changed to Ulead VideoStudio 10 Plus I am really surprised how stable and easy to use it is. It comes with a free Dolby Digital 5.1 creator and up to seven video tracks. There are seven steps that lead you to the final result and your DVDs can even have menu transitions. You see me delighted. Thank you, Ulead!
Clean, Stable and Lots of Functions July 11, 2006 J. Samuel 49 out of 53 found this review helpful
This is simply an excellent piece of software. Having just been forced to upgrade our camcorder, I recently purchased the Sony HDR-HC3E (which btw, is a stunning high def "point & shoot" camcorder for a nearly stunning price) and this software was easily able to capture, render and edit the 1080i footage that I had recorded. So far Videostudio 10 Plus has not even looked liked crashing which, after using Pinnacle Studio 8 for so long, is a BIG plus point. A concise and compact instruction booklet showing you how to use a wide array of features and produce multiple video formats add to this being a highly recommended piece of video editing software. 5 STARS.
Better than my old program December 11, 2006 Dr Nick (Sheffield, S Yorks United Kingdom) 44 out of 46 found this review helpful
After a couple of years with Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD, I got this, and overall it's an improvement. You need a powerful PC with an up-to-date graphics card, a fast processor, and loads of RAM (512 will cope, but more=better). Mine is a 1.9 ghz AMD, 1024 RAM and a nvidia 6600 card, just for the record. For camcorder stuff it's slick. You need a firewire card and cable, but the editing is fairly straightforward, menu options are nice to look at (if you care), and you can get more onto the DVD than I used to be able to with my old software. You can drag & drop bits of edited video around if you want to mess with the running order as well, jazz around with the sound (which is on a separate editing track, so it's quite easy to see what you're doing). And there are loads of effects in the retail version that are missing from the trial version (obviously) to fiddle with. However, although it can handle multiple formats (mpg, wmf, divx, dx50, xvid, etc...), it gets very slow at the burn stage (7 hours later still making menus in one case!). Pretty slow loading up a half-done project too. It appears you have to use the "share" option, turn the project into a mpeg file, then re-start the program, insert the new file into the "create disc" option, and go from there. Which is a bit fiddly. Having anything in the "edit" section slows things up a lot too. Ulead have a fairly decent user forum system, and there are a few tutorials there which are helpful. It's a shame the creators themselves didn't anticipate this sort of problem and deal with it prior to launch. I'd advise downloading the trial version from the Ulead website and testing it before buying the full thing, in case your PC can't handle it.
AN EDITING PROGRAMME THAT WORKS! August 5, 2006 L. J. Harris (Oxfordshire, UK) 42 out of 47 found this review helpful
After months of limping along with the awful Pinnacle Studio 10, each of whose updates and fixes seemed to make it worse, Ulead VideoStudio Plus is a joy to use. It has all the features of the Pinnacle product, and, unlike its rival, it works. My only complaint is against Amazon, not Ulead. Amazon do not routinely list the system requirements for the software they offer, and I was initially dismayed to find that VideoStudio took ten minutes and more to make even the smallest editing changes. I concluded that the reason was that my Athlon CPU was an earlier and slower version of the one listed on the box (but not on the Amazon website) as the recommended minimum. Ulead told me that this should not be critical, and after a thorough defragging of both my hard drives all came right in the end. Moral: Amazon should make a point of giving critical technical information before purchase, and users should check their setup carefully before blaming their PCs or the software for teething troubles.
short changed and outraged November 24, 2006 A. Peacock 26 out of 32 found this review helpful
Ulead videostudio 10 is a great piece of software and well worth getting; if you have a PC and do not want to use it on youre laptop. Yes ulead videostudio 10 does not work on laptops and they do not know why. I have rung and rung as have other people but its the same reply "we are working on it." I do not think this is right. Why should i have to wait for a patch to be released so i can use it, now im very annoyed that i bought this from amazon with no indication that it would not work. There is no sign or warning and i am outraged. I bought it with the thought that i would be able to edit videos for a school project, i have since failed them because i could not use it and windows movie maker does not record to dvd, only cd which will not work for me. This is very poor and should have been found before it was released, it has been on sale a while and yet still does not work on laptops. A patch should be released but when i dont know.
