Reasonable upgrade - useless Bridge CS3 May 1, 2007 Noel Cramer (Geneva, Switzerland) 49 out of 51 found this review helpful
I would have rated the Photoshop CS3 upgrade with 5 stars. The program is significantly faster than its earlier version and many functions work better. Photomerge has been very greatly improved. Bridge CS3 is, however, a great disappointment. In my case - and on both computers on which I have installed it - the program crashes immediately in "Folder" mode, and does not allow access to external drives. Thus preventing the use of backup data. A "google search" shows that that issue is widespread among users, and it is difficult to understand how Adobe could have released the software as an "alpha" version. My advice: Wait until the problem is definitely fixed. Therefore, 3 stars only for CS3 !
CS3 - Wait Until Beta Bugs In This Alpha Edition Are Sorted May 20, 2007 A. Mccallum (England) 41 out of 43 found this review helpful
This software lives up to the promise on the box in terms of improved utility and image processing. However unlike CS2 which has worked faultlessly on my system (XP) the CS3 version is prone to crash with loss of work and this can be as often as every 5 minutes. Additionally tools may not work correctly or you may experience a wait of several seconds before the tool is operable. On top of this there is a European backlash about the pricing of this product which is at least a third more expensive than in the USA. I wish I'd waited
Don't upgrate to CS3... yet July 9, 2007 D. Calvert (UK) 35 out of 36 found this review helpful
I've used Photoshop since v:5. All versions have worked virtually faultlessly. I wish I could say the same for CS3. Its without question the buggiest version of PS I have ever used. The major problem I (and many, many other people) have experienced is with the printing section. Pics are printed off-centre or too small. I've still got to get it to print a contact sheet properly - despite checking and double checking the printer settings. What's also extremely annoying is that it does not remember your previous print settings - like CS2 did. I now have to print pics with CS2 - which prints perfectly. The new design of Bridge is pretty good, but unlike previous versions of Bridge, it does not see external drives when you hook them up to your PC. You have to close PS down and then reload it for it to see the drive. Bridge does also crash rather a lot too. Also, check your plug-ins, some of them I had are not compatible with CS3. Some CS3 users (although not me) have reported problems with installing too. My advice to you is to wait a few months when hopefully they will have issued some fixes. Apart from that, its great!!
Don't buy if you are using Vista Ultimate May 8, 2007 J. D. Fox (Kent UK) 22 out of 26 found this review helpful
This software does not install on Vista Ultimate - have successfully installed it on Vista Business. Have tried to contact Adobe but their website is impossible to use to get support - they don't seem to recognise that CS3 is a product that needs any support. The product review looks great, just wish I could use the software.
Photoshop Dream Software January 20, 2008 letsgetitright (England Europe) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Photoshop CS3 is wonderful and a real joy to use. We were not naive enough to feel it could run on an older less powerful machine. We purchased a new PC especially to run Photoshop CS3, with a lot of memory and running XP Professional, and have hardly anything else running on this machine so that other software does not clutter things up etc. CS3 loaded very easily. After installing the upgrades - 260MB - we started to use it for our day to day image processing. You download your images directly from your card into Bridge and then open them as RAW files. Camera RAW 4.1 is amazing and you will find your images benefit greatly from using this software. After this processing in Photoshop CS3 is smooth and very reliable. We have now been using this software for a while and have had absolutely no problems at all. Photoshop CS3 is dream imaging software.
