5 out of 5 stars A return to the better format!   June 30, 2007

After hearing numerous bad reviews leading up to the game's release, I was pretty anxious when installing it. However, I am pleased to say that EA have excelled this time by reverting back to the 'free rein in running around Hogwarts' format that were the highlights of the first 3 Harry Potter games.
Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire PC disappointed me greatly- the set levels system made the game unpersonal and going back into levels to find thing you've missed bored me to tears. This game is far better, and the graphics are incredible. The balance has to be set between speed and detail however; if the quality is set to maximum the game is very slow on my computer.
The new system of casting spells will also take some getting used to, but it's well worth my 29.99; and gives loads of hints to the plot coming up in the next film! Excuse me; I've got to go and play it...

Having bought and played all of the other 4 games, plus the Quidditch World Cup - which I enjoyed more than I thought I would; I loved the way it went back to being able to explore Hogwarts like the first 3 games.

I did like GoF, but found the inability to explore Hogwarts frustrating. I did play it endlessly though, so it wasn't too bad.

The only negative thing about this, is that I can only play using the keyboard and mouse, as it refuses to recognise my Microsoft joypad, which is unusual, as all the others recognise it. It means Harry is very hard to control, as to make him go in a certain direction, you have to aim the mouse to make him walk that way, which for a while, because my mouse is optical and very sensitive, it meant him walking round in circles!!!!!! I am use to it now, but would prefer the use of a joypad.

The spells are good, and I like that I can now do hexes against unsuspecting students! I managed to get detention from Snape for hexing a Slytherin!!!

The graphics are brilliant, and there is so much to find throughout the game.

I just wish my joypad worked!! Although, I must admit, it would be difficult to produce all the spells with a joypad.

Aside from the joypad issues, I have enjoyed this game so far, and can't wait to get to the Ministry bit!

forgive the lame title it took me thirty minutes to think it up, having purchased this game for only 24.99 i thought i had run into somewhat of a bargain as i am quite a big fan of Harry potter and this game is relatively new. Along with others i enjoy the free roaming aspect of it all if you dnt want to follow the story line you dont really have to you can explore round hogwarts and find all the different secrects hidden in it. Controls on keboard and mouse are difficult to say the least and with the camera contantly flying all over the place it is sometimes difficult to keep up. Missions are horrendously repetitive and it seems at some point the people making up this game got bored and just threw anything in, you have to repeat the same action 6 times in destroy the speakers mission with all that running in between, o yes all that running what sounds brilliantly fun at first is frustratingly annoying having to run for sometimes 5 minutes to get anywhere you need to be and of course waiting at each bit of stairs for 30 seconds so that they can turn themselves round and face the right way. The game i would break down as this 60%- running around the place, 30%- doing the same boring missions, and 10%- doing what we all want to do which is actually dueling and with the difficult controls you will struggle and lose the first couple, i think there are actually about 8 duels in all in the game which you are "meant" to do which is really really bad in the ministry for magic you only do 2 which is you as sirus v lucius malfoy and you as dumbledore vs voldemort, Come on EA games sort your life out, there was so much more oppurtunity there and so much more that actually happened. Of course if you really want as you are walking around the corridors trying to find a cliff to jump off, o no wait you cant jump, you can jinx people putting you in a duelling battle however throughout the game i have only seen people hang round in groups of 2 and of course you as harry have your two slaves (ron and hermione) copying pretty much everything you do so instantly the duel become 3v2 in your favour and its hard to lose at that point. and of course my favourite complaint NO QUIDDITCH, yes i know that umbridge banned it in the book so diehard fans will be whinging at me saying well it shouldn't be in the game bit then , but come on just give us a little side game so that we can play it god knows thisd game needs something to sort it out. Overall i say congratulation to Ea games take the money off of all us gullible fans out and serve us up a game that to be honest is about as fun as eating a bowl full of rusty glass. Cheers.

Once again an EA game that doesn't run. Too much effort on security rather than on delivering a product to paying customers (or their daughters) results in a useless disk. EA of course have no mention of this on their website but if you google you'll find lots of folk get a security module "7001" error. The only answer is a registry edit ! Obviously it must run for some folk but equally obviously lots have problems. It'll cost you 25 quid to find out which group you fall in to.

3 out of 5 stars Not so bad - but where's the fun gone?   July 30, 2007

Having read the other fairly negative reviews on this and other websites, I was unsure about whether to even buy this game, but in the end decided just to find out for myself what it was like. As with many other reviewers, I loved the first three Harry Potter games - they were fun to play, easy to control and colourful to look at. I didn't try the fourth game as it had such bad reviews, and I can see why so many people don't like this one either.
However, I actually quite enjoyed this game. Granted, the controls do take quite a bit of getting used to, and sometimes spell-casting can be difficult, but on the whole I enjoyed doing the tasks and figuring out how to find the portait passwords etc. There are a lot of things to find in Hogwarts, and I like the way that the game continues after "the finish" to allow you to go back and find all the things you missed. I have still got a lot of things to find! I thought that the graphics were good, and I liked exploring Hogwarts which is HUGE in this game.
On the downside, I have to say that there are some annoying things about this game, particularly the fact that there seemed to be a problem with saving sometimes - I would save my game, but next time I went into it, not everything I had completed would have been saved and I would have to go back and do it again.
On the whole, I would say that I thought this game was reasonably enjoyable, and so I have given it 3 stars. I just thought that the first three games were so much more fun though! However, I suppose that as Harry grows up and the stories themselves become darker, it is only appropriate that the games do too.
I would also say that whilst I played the first three games over and over again, I can't see myself playing this one more than once, or maybe twice.
