| Customer Reviews: Excellent for smal business but needs proper tuition to use August 12, 2009 G. A. Stutters (Norwich) 31 out of 32 found this review helpful
I needed to make major savings on my accountants bill so purchased Sage Instant Accounts v15. In hindsight I should have also bought the payroll as well for use later on after I have learned to use the Sage Instant. Thankfully my account had a sage specialist who, for a cost, set up the software and taught me the basics. Learning the basics was no easy task but once I had practiced with a few bills and invoices things became quite simple. It is best to do a couple of tasks over a couple of sessions to reinforce the procedures.
As part of this major move for my company accounts I invested in a new laptop and external hard drive for backups. I intend to backup to an online service as well. I don't want to fall foul of the HMRC by losing data.
Within a couple of days I had reconciled my last quarters bank statements and manually submitted my VAT return. These tasks were made very easy by the Sage software. I have now registered for online VAT submission and expect things o be made even easier. I will also be downloading the bank statements online and using these downloads to assist in making easier the reconciliation process.
As for the payroll I now feel confident enough to take a look and try and use this software. But in a couple of months time.
I cannot overstress the need for a couple of face to face teaching sessions. These were essential for my success.
Additionally I found that the Sage Help Desk was very supportive and took me through other items like designing invoices for use within the package. Another task that should now be easier. I contacted Sage about 3 times to date and the longest waiting time was about 7 minutes. They took the time to talk me through the different things that I needed help to deal with. An excellent service which I now intend to take out the Sage Cover once the initial period has expired. With this Sage Cover I will also be kept up to date with the latest software.
In conclusion my learning experience was difficult but made easier(successful)with one to one tuition sessions and an excellent Help Desk support.
Now for the part that all small businesses need in this age of over taxation by the revenue. I expect to reduce my accountants bill by at least 50% this year which more than pays for the hardware and software purchases.
I have no connections or business interest in the Sage Company in case you feel I may be overstating the praise for this software.
Very Good November 10, 2009 Mr. J. Driver 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Ultimately this is a very good package. I run a small business and want to sort out all my own finances, tax etc. The product has an incredible amount of functionality and as a result the amount to learn is staggering - I doubt I've even used a tenth of the software yet, though what I have used, I've been able to stumble through using the practice data supplied.
This is the first accounting package I've used so I encountered a steep learning curve. You may find it easier if you've used another package or version of sage before. I'm considering some kind of tuition or maybe the Self Study package.
One problem encountered was the inability to choose a specific year start/end date. Sage will only let your financial period run from the 1st of a month to the end of one. As a result I had to adjust my financial year dates through HMRC. I hope there are no more restrictions to be discovered, but so far, so good.
Despite this and the complexity of the software I'm very pleased.
superb accounting programme October 5, 2009 Wilfrid William Mackie (U.K.) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Sage is far and away the best accounting package. I have tried several in recent times and they all have weaknesses. But not Sage. It truly is excellent from ease of use to reliability. It is also excellent value for money. If all this sounds too good to be true the best way to convince you is for you to try it. You will not be disappointed.
A really exciting product ! (if you are an accountant) February 22, 2010 Geoffrey Newell (Manchester, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Sage is run by accountants. Most Sage products for small businesses are recommended by accountants and you can easily imagine their disappointment that we have stopped using quill pens. Sage Instant Accounts is good for acountants but it is not the most user friendly product in the world for the rest of us who just want to run our businesses efficiently.
That sounds a bit negative, but although Instant Accounts has the look and feel of a product that's at least 5 years out of date. It does work and has been reliable. The telephone support from Sage (once you get through) is also superb.
I upgraded from V11 to V15 and had a torrid time of it (due to some interaction between Internet Explorer and Sage) but the (free) telephone support could not have been beter (apart from the waiting time). It is now working fine and V15 does seem like a big step forward from V11.
One retrograde step is that the manual is no longer provided in book form but only as a PDF file.
The crunch is whether of not I'd recommend it. The answer is yes; it needs to be brought into the 21st century but it works.
SAGE ACCOUNTS August 3, 2009 C. Howe (UK) 15 out of 18 found this review helpful
I chose Sage Accounts as we are going computerised in work. I used to use Sage Accounts years ago and it has changed alot but the basics are the same. It is quite easy to use but best to purchase a book like Sage 50 Accounts for Dummies which is very helpful.
