| Customer Reviews: Buy this, not Pinacle June 8, 2009 Philip Wood (Sevenoaks, Kent United Kingdom) 30 out of 31 found this review helpful
Are you wanting to edit AVCHD from your SD card? I tried the latest Pinnacle Ultimate and it was a disaster. It kept crashing my new pc despite the high spec - quad core, 512mb graphics card etc - so after much wasted time and with considerable frustration I decided to go for the Adobe suite. The user interface has a steeper learning curve and is not as friendly as Pinnacle. The pre-canned effects are not as good. But what use are these if the computer keeps crashing? Adobe was remarkably stable producing a good quality edit in HD. The program is highly configurable so if you have the time you can create to your heart's content. The integration with photoshop is very good and especially useful if you like to mix animated stills/slideshows with movie clips. So if you have the dosh go for the Adobe bundle.
I also liked the way you can archive all the files used in a movie. This means you can keep these off the pc saving a lot of space, avoiding losing treasured memories while retaining full flexibility to re-edit your masterpiece later. Pinnacle leaves your pc in a mess of files.
If you are not into HD video then maybe the Pinnacle product would be OK but in this case the free software from Microsoft - Moviemaker and Photostory - can be tweaked to do an excellent job instead. Indeed I have produced HD animated slideshows from stills using photostory and wmm. There's quite a lot of help on the web showing how to do it. And they're free. Unfortunately moviemaker can't handle the AVCHD codec so once you are into HD video go for Adobe and save yourself a lot of heartache!
PsE and PrE v7 Review June 22, 2009 I. Phillips (Plymouth, UK) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I have used Photoshop Elements for many years and although there are things about it which are less user-friendly that other 'domestic' focused tools, its professional heritage does show through when you want to do something difficult ... for me that is good. I recently bought a Digital Video Camera, so wanting to keep my database compatible, it was logical to buy Premier Elements ... so I decided to upgrade PsE at the same time so bought the v7 bundle.
PrE is obviously from the same 'professional stable' and is very capable and/but shows its heritage in the user interface. It does require a reasonable (even high) performance PC with lost of Internal Disk (USB Disk is too slow and it goes away and sulks). My dual-core Lenovo X200s (which is no slouch!) is clearly on the edge. It handles edits just fine and is acceptably fast in most things; but it is rather inclined to crash, and as (re)opening projects take minutes, Saving often is recommended. I'm hoping to get it sorted, but right now, some icons don't display; it doesn't like running when there is anything else running on the PC; and recording Narration just hangs the machine. And be sure you disable the External Video Card option (default ON) if you haven't got one, that cured quite a few problems in itself.
But (perversely) I would still recommend the program because of its professional feel ... and I'm sure these bugs will be cleared in 7.n (hopefully soon!). And they are a great team.

I have used Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0/3.0/4.o and Premiere Elements 1.0/2.0 and I must say, that Elements 7.0 is the best buy I have done for a long time.

Photoshop Elements 7 October 5, 2009 Greyman (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have only used the Photoshop Elements part of of the package so far. The product is first rate. The organiser part lets you import and file your pictures. I have already entered 2000 photos. Sorting, tagging and adding captions was very easy and rapid. The editor part lets you fix pictures and is very easy to use. The product is very powerful and I would recommend viewing some of the online tutorials (film clips) to get an idea of what you can do; this also sets you off running when you open the box. About 2 hrs(in 5 -10 minute clips)of tutorials will be time well spent and you can be sure the product is right for you. My wife said it was the most useful thing I had ever bought!
Part of being a digital photographer September 10, 2009 Paul.A (Cyprus) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Firstly, this is NOT that easy to use software, you can't open it up and learn as you go along, the way I learned to use it (and I'm not in the very-good class yet) was to have a quiet day, an empty house is best, and go through the tutorial, once you have grasped the principle your learning and enjoyment curve shoots up.
If you enjoy your digital photography and want to take it to the next level then you really do need Adobe Elements, if you take digital video then Elements Premier is the one for you, I am more photographic than video oriented 90%/10% but on price it would be silly not to have both.
Apart from touching up individual photos, which can be taken to an almost infinite level, you can then change a picture into a work of art in an indefinable number of ways, also, some of the basic products you can produce , such as slide shows and video production are just breathtaking, in short, for a keen amateur, once you have grasped that all too important principle of layers in a picture the only limit is your own imagination.
