| Customer Reviews: A lightweight easy to use alternative to Photoshop January 1, 2009 John Nunn (Coventry, U.K.) 223 out of 226 found this review helpful
As a software developer working mainly with web technologies, I have to constantly manage and manipulate images. This is a task I am hopeless at I can crop and resize images but anything else and I find it almost impossible. I have a full copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3 yet find the program totally bewildering; I have completed several courses on using it but to no avail. Image manipulation is completely different skill to software development, requiring a different mindset.
After struggling a friend suggested I try PaintShop Pro, as it was a lightweight image manipulation package designed to make tasks easy. So I downloaded the trial version and started to give it a try; after about an hour I ordered the full version. It is so easy to use and create the effects my clients so often want. The ability to apply effects and create what I considered complex tasks in Photoshop was an absolute doddle in Paintshop Pro. Adding a drop shadow effect is just a few clicks as is creating a reflection.
For the price this is a superb application and should form part of any developer's toolbox.
Excellent value for money June 3, 2009 J. Hollands (uk) 69 out of 70 found this review helpful
Having bought a 'Carlos Fandango' of a digital camera I thought I had better buy a photo editing programme to go with it. Having reviewed some of them in the camera magazines and online this one seemed to suit my purpose. I did not want something so complicated to spend hours editing my photos but wanted something that was better than the standard 'windows' editor. This fits the bill perfectly and at a good price too. It is far better than the price suggests and very easy to use with instructions every step if needed. There are two auto fix methods, one is excellent allowing user input the other is automatic and not very good IMHO. It allows you to auto save the originals so you always have the original no matter what changes you make. If you are new to the digital world of editing (like me), on a budget, or want something that does what it says on the box. This is for you.
The one to buy April 21, 2009 Philip Waters (UK) 81 out of 83 found this review helpful
The full version of photoshop is of course the standard by which all photo editors are measured, but it's cost is huge. Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 Ultimate is a fraction of the price but still contains the vast majority of the functions that photographers are likely to need- more than Photoshop Elements.
Perhaps not the easiest application for beginners, but I would still recommend it as something you can grow into-better than having to buy it later when you discover that your existing program can't do what you need.
The Ultimate version adds extra programs, some are useful, others less so but definately worth trying out at the very least. The video tutorials provide an excellent way of getting to grips with the methodologies. And an always useful pendrive is an added bonus!

I have been using Paint Shop Pro for some years, and it is an excellent program.PSP X2 Ultimate has a number of useful additions in particular the Background Remover Plug In and the Painter Photo Essentials 4.
proberly not worth upgrading from X2 but if you have earlier versions it is worthwhile.
Excellent software when it's working January 6, 2010 Mr. T. Morrison (lancashire, uk) 47 out of 48 found this review helpful
I bought this software direct from Amazon in August, registered it with Corel and everything was working fine. That was until yesterday when it suddenly stopped working altogether. It appears that Corel have teamed up with someone called Protexis who offer a software piracy protection file called PSI key.
For the past few weeks I have been getting pop up windows from the system tray telling me a fix to a problem has been found and was prompted to download a fix to PSI Key. Windows Vista informed me that this was an unknown publisher so I did a bit of research and found that they were used by Corel to protect their software and with me having purchased the product had nothing to worry about so downloaded the fix.
How wrong I was, my Paintshop Pro Photo X2 ultimate was immediately deactivated and is still not working. It appears I am not the only legitimate customer this has happened to.
This is an excellent photo editing package when it works!
